Wildlife

Indio, California: The stormy weather of yesterday is gone. We woke to another sunny, warm day - with clear skies. However, the mountains surrounding the Coachella Valley are covered in fresh snow. Beautiful!

We exercised and then headed out to Palm Desert for our annual field trip to Golfsmith. Every year or so, I need a new golf glove and a few sleeves of golf balls. Occasionally, My Driver wants to try a new fairway wood.

Change is good.

As long as we were in the neighborhood, I asked DT to stop by Sherman's Deli to purchase corned beef. One of my favorite foodies, David Lebovitz, tweeted a link to a very interesting take on the Rueben Sandwich, that I have decided to try tomorrow.

After we arrived back to our motorhome, Captain Jim and Mary delivered their "find" of gorgeous green AND yellow (GO DUCKS) bell peppers that they expect I will turn into a fabulous appetizer by tomorrow for cocktail hour.

No pressure there!

It's like yesterday didn't even happen. The weather today was simply perfect. Look at our view!

With all the green-space and all the water in this RV resort, the bird life is abundant.

There are many egrets/cranes/herons (sorry, I just can't tell the difference) living inside the park. They nest. They reproduce. [NOTE: Identified as a Great White Egret.]

They are gorgeous.

Graceful. Brilliant white. Elegant.

They also poop all over boat docks and are not always welcome neighbors.

And then we have this guy/gal.

This water bird has been living alone in the water in front of our campsite for over two weeks. Every bird in the neighborhood has paired-up. Mated. Nested. This creature still waits for a lover. We have been unable to identify this bird. It acts as a loon, but is not a loon. It can dive, but it rarely dives. When this bird wants to disappear, it simply sinks into the water - submarine-like - for up to five minutes at a time. [NOTE: Identified as a pied-billed grebe.]

Until my next update, I remain, your (inept) ornithological correspondent.
