Astoria, Oregon: It poured rain all night, but we woke to a more cheerful situation and decided to continue north to Astoria. Water gushed off our awning and slides this morning, but we enjoyed sun the rest of our day. Yes! Finally. Of course, you know there is one special place we never miss when driving in this area on Highway 101 - The Tillamook Creamery. It seems every one else visits the cheese factory too, as it is always busy. The tour is self-guided. Today they were packaging baby loafs (2 pounds) of the famous cheese.

Of course they have tons of free samples and a gift shop where you can purchase their many cheese varieties (in many forms) and also their cheese curds, milks and ice cream. Or you can just have a cone. Or lunch in their little restaurant. Or you can just sit in the corner and suck on your Lipitor and cry like a baby.

We started RVing in 1988 in a VW pop-top. Maybe it is time to down-size to a little orange Loaf Love Tour Bus? What do you think? Can we cram a king-sized bed in there? What about a washer-dryer? Nope. I don't even think it has a potty. Oh, well - look for a Loaf Love Tour Bus in your town soon.

But I will not be behind the wheel.

We continued north on 101. It is a super scenic drive, but a bit twisty for our massive beast. We did quite a bit of "porpoising" as well. Never fun. But we were rewarded with this fabulous campsite at the Lewis & Clark Golf & RV Park in Astoria, Oregon.

Astoria is at the very top left corner of Oregon. The Mighty Columbia empties into the Pacific here, and across the river is The Great State of Washington. Lewis & Clark wintered here after crossing the continent. There is a lot of history in this area and Astoria is a very pretty town, with great food, museums, trails and beaches.
