The Road to Indio

Indio, California: After a great morning at the Bakersfield RV Resort - jogging on their great treadmill - oh goodness, did we have an awful day of driving. Terrible. The roads are in such terrible shape anyway and weeks of rain have turned parts of Highway 58 from Bakersfield to Highway 395 (Four Corners) into pothole after pothole over pothole until it just becomes one massive pothole. You could hide a VW Bug in some of these things! Portions of Highway 395 (near Hesperia) have lost entire lanes - simply swept away by rivers of rain. Mother Nature can be such a bitch.

We stopped only twice on our 250-ish-mile trek today - once for fuel for the Magna Peregrinus ($362) and once for fuel for us (leftovers from Bill & Ginger's steak feast Saturday night). The rest of the day was spent avoiding potholes and terrible traffic. My Poor Driver is simply exhausted. Me too. I knitted an entire dishcloth for The Lovely Lisa on our drive today.

But we are trying to forget about all that traffic, road disintegration and our general malaise. The campsite we were randomly assigned at the Motorcoach Country Club in Indio has helped elevate our spirits considerably! We are staying in one of the best sites in the entire resort! The above photo is our view from the windscreen. It looks directly across the waterway to the club house, with the mountains beyond. Lucky!

Dynamic Detailing. His crew will be here tomorrow to wash our absolutely filthy motorhome. Next to stop by? Karen ("The Pancake Lady") & Dick - our neighbors from a two years ago when we were camped here for the Holiday Bowl. Our third group of greeters? Fellow Ducks Melissa & Dan (son of Mary & Captain Jim) and their five-week-old darling girl, Haley!Hello, Gorgeous!

Little dimpled baby fingers are irresistible.

Happily welcomed to our favorite RV resort in America (or would that be the world?), we settled-in to realign our spines and enjoy a relaxing evening.

With a view like this - our frowns were turned upside down in no-time.

Until my next update, I remain, your recharging correspondent.
