Super Bowl Weekend in Yuma

Yuma, Arizona: True to plan, DT was backing the Magna Peregrinus out of her Indio home at 11a sharp! We pointed her south towards Brawley and then made a left to Yuma, just making one quick stop for a sandwich (home made, while our RV was parked in a rest area).

We are camped at the The Palms RV Resort, where we prefer to stay in Yuma. The park is well-maintained and they have great facilities (though parts are now closed as we understand they may be having financial difficulties?) - but mostly they provide huge long sites for monsters like our bus. Easy in and out. Check-in (unlike this time) was without incident. We were pre-paid, so the the security guard just led us to our reserved site in his golf cart.

If only their reservation system worked as well. A few weeks ago, I spent 27 minutes on the telephone to make a three-night reservation, at a park where all our info was already in their system. TWENTY SEVEN MINUTES.

We are in Yuma to, once again, join in the famed Super Bowl festivities held at Dad & Mary's RV resort. (They are in the RV resort across the street from this RV resort... we are just too dang long to squeeze in there.) My Dad gets double the trouble this year. Not only am I here, my sister Renee has flown-in from Portland. Dad calls it the Estrogen Invasion Weekend.

Mary cooked a great roast beef dinner, with all the trimmings - potatoes, carrots, gravy - which we all enjoyed together this evening. The roast was super tender and I am afraid we left them few leftovers. Not that anyone will be starving over this weekend's food fest. The party group will deep-fry/smoke SIX turkeys!

Dad is looking good... considering he fell UP a few stairs the other day and bruised (did not break) a rib! Mary is taking good care of him, but, seriously, our parents just need to stop falling.

SLOGGER REPORT: I ran/walked two miles this morning before we left. Does not seem like much, but after my foot injury, it is enough. My foot was really swollen this evening... maybe due to sitting in the passenger seat for four hours? I typed this column with my foot elevated with a bag of ice. And a glass of wine. Tomorrow is a rest day.

Until my next update, I remain, your "doesn't everyone go to Yuma on Super Bowl weekend?" correspondent.

RV PARK: The Palms RV Resort - we have a large back-in site (I think they are all back-in sites) with 50 amp, water, sewer, cable and free wifi. Pool, bathhouse, laundry, etc. We are paying about $48 per night.
