Stormy Day in Borrego Springs

Borrego Springs, California: Our day started with beautiful sun, so we were out the door early for bicycling (DT) and jogging (me), because we heard it was supposed to get windy and stormy later.

I run on this road

I stopped to see my friend - he and his pals are busy picking grapes and tending vines.

He's the silent-type.

It is pretty incredible, running out on DiGiorgio Road - with fantastic views, interesting art, little traffic and plenty of sunshine.

Especially since it is snowing like crazy at our home in Oregon. Last report has our driveway covered in 6 inches of the white stuff.

Temperature at home? 20 degrees.

By the time we returned from our exercises, the wind began to blow and the sky grew dark. It felt like rain. We changed our afternoon plan of exploring the desert to tacos in town.

We went back to Carmelita's Mexican Restaurant in "The Mall" downtown Borrego Springs. The Mall has only a few shops, but between this shopping center, and the one across the street, one can can pretty-much get by in Borrego Springs for a while.

The taco quest was quashed when the waitress delivered a bowl of tortilla soup to a nearby table and I caught a whiff of the steamy bowl. I ordered a cup of soup, but - as usual - the "cup" was massive, and plenty for my lunch.

My Driver couldn't finish his quesadilla. We are such wimps.

Needing postcards, we went to the gift shop at the Visitor Center at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.

Kathy & Woody arrived this afternoon to Borrego Springs. Dave and I cooked dinner for our friends, while we watched the Oregon Ducks lose (just barely) to the #2 Arizona Wildcats (basketball) in Tucson. I made one of DT's favorite pasta dishes - spaghetti with pecorino cheese and black pepper... and except for the cheese coagulating into big blobby balls, the meal was quite delicious.

No idea what happened. I make this dish at least once a month. Who knows? Thank goodness it was old friends for dinner tonight instead of the President of Zimbabwe. Our friends forgave me.

Tomorrow we move campsites, visit the Farmers Market and tee off. All of this will happen before 11a. Remember me in your prayers.

SLOGGER REPORT: Three miles - alternating walking/running between songs on my iPod.

Until my next update, I remain, your stormy correspondent.

RV PARK: Springs at Borrego RV Resort and Golf Course - We have a paved pull-through site with full-service 50 amp. One of our very favorite RV parks on the west coast. Sites are large and each has a nice cement patio and picnic table. There are also different varieties of citrus trees all over, so you will never be lacking for a cocktail garnish in the winter. Free wifi. Fabulous warm pool and many hot tubs - all from their own hot springs! Fitness center, library, community rooms. Regulation 9-hole golf course. Recycling. Huge fenced dog park! We are paying $70 per night.
