Eugene, Oregon: Finally! We are headed south for a winter of fun, sun, the Rose Bowl, golf and maybe just a little Leo time!
It is customary to give each long RV trip a name, or a theme - always taking a cue from a Jimmy Buffett song. This tour has been named the Defying Gravity Tour... for the obvious reasons... and we just need to remain young at heart and healthy for our grandson and for two big events planned for 2012 - the Olympic Trials in June and Lisa & Lenny's wedding in October.

Defying Gravity
This past week at home has been one of the busiest I can recall in several years and I am so happy to have all my projects finished and once again begin the more leisurely lifestyle a RV vacation allows. (Well, I did bring several needlepoint canvases along, but those "projects" are pure joy for me!)
We finished loading the Magna Peregrinus this afternoon and and just as we were leaving, Mary stopped-by with a farewell gift - a little Hanukkah Rubber Ducky! Of course, My Driver immediately named our new friend LaDucky.
LaDucky's dreidel reads "gimel" (all), meaning LaDucky wins the entire pot... a good sign for My Ducks v Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl January 2.
This adorable guy will serve as our trip mascot and hopefully lead us safely down the road and to a victory in the Rose Bowl.So we only made it two hours south to Eugene this afternoon - where we will stay for two nights. DT has Olympic Trials meetings tomorrow and we have tickets to the Oregon v Portland State basketball game.

It was so bitterly cold outside, we struggled to get this bus warm, after a week sitting on our frozen driveway. We cannot hook-up to water, as the pipes will freeze overnight.
We need to get to Palm Springs.
Stat.
Stupidly, I planned the "traditional first night on the road" lasagna for the first night we leave Eugene (when I feel we are actually officially "on the road"). Tonight I had planned a Chicken Caesar Salad for dinner. A cold supper was just not appealing at 32°, so we bundled-up and went out for Italian food at the nearby Gateway area.
Ciao Pizza has a wood-fired pizza oven, so we sat ourselves down on seats at the oven-facing bar. After twenty minutes, I was able to remove my coat! It was practically balmy after thirty minutes, and I could once-again feel my toes. I ordered a bowl of their vegan minestrone soup, which came topped with parmesan cheese. Not so sure how what makes the soup vegan? It was yummy and filling and warming. Perfect night for a bowl of soup!

We had a coupon and are paying $30 per night. Pull-through sites are long enough, so it is not necessary to unhook your tow car. The resort also offers front-in sites that look over a pretty pond/lake.
