TrackTown, USA: We are in Eugene. Not still. Again. After the track meet finished (in a glorious spectacular mind-blowing finale), we drove back to our house in Portland (apparently, we have a house in Portland... who knew?) and readied ourselves for yet another road trip. Three weeks in our motorhome!
Would not be Sunday without pizza. This time just a simple red sauce, mozzarella and turkey pepperoni.I worked until the wee-hours Sunday, Monday and Tuesday to finish a needlepoint canvas and sent FIVE finished projects off to the (all pillows) finisher. Five is a very solid volume of work for me over the winter... probably only possible because of My Driver's knee injury, surgery and rehab, which kept us/me at home more than out and about.
But don't y'all worry. I have a new little pillow project with me on this three week road trip. (Hmmm... wonder who requested a Hello Kitty pee-yoh?) I'm working this canvas in a 50/50 wool/silk mix - my favorite fiber, Silk & Ivory.... obviously for my favorite granddaughter - Lucile Joy.We packed what we needed for three weeks into the Jeep on Wednesday, loaded-up the RV, and pointed it south 100 miles on I-5 to Eugene. Dave has University of Oregon Foundation Trustee meetings this week.
The summer trustee meeting is always a little bittersweet because several members will finish-out their 8-year term at this session. Tonight, the University bid farewell to six dedicated trustees. In fine form. After a lovely dinner in the Club Room at the Matt Knight Arena (the basketball stadium), trustees and guests were lead into the arena and seated in the stands. Long-time University of Oregon basketball announcer, Don Essig, announced the departing trustees as they were escorted onto a darkened courtside stage by The Duck (our mascot) under a canopy of spotlights, ala the NBA. Essig used his best "player introduction" voice and it was quite fun for the celebrants and "fans" in the seats.
Each retiring trustee received a short video tribute and were awarded a (super heavy) Lifetime Duck statue (on the table behind the stage), and each recipient was given time to say a few words. There were tears.I am but a spouse of a current trustee, but know how much time and dedication is involved by this very enthusiastic group of devoted (volunteer!) University of Oregon trustees. Bonds form, and friendships develop between the trustees and their spouses. Trustees are from all over the world. All walks of life. Not every trustee is even a U of O alum. They all want the best for the University and that is enough to move mountains. Thank you for your service to the University.

RV PARK: Premier RV Park. I-5, exit 199. Large paved pull-throughs. Back-in sites line a small lake. Laundry, fitness center, club house, pool in-season, bath house, recycling, small store. 50 amp, free wifi. This park is very popular with campers in the area for University of Oregon sport events - and repairs/maintenance at the many nearby RV facilities. We are paying $54 per night.
