My New Driver

Indio, California:  No, I have not replaced DT as the driver of my RV. A few days ago DT bought me a new Taylor Made Burner driver to replace my 13-year-old Taylor Made driver. This afternoon, we golfed at Indian Palms Country Club with old (Portland) friends, Jim & Marci.

Apparently, my new driver works. Well.

I hit the "Burner" on 17 holes and hit it well 16 times. Once, I hit it 175 yards. For me, this is huge... and a huge improvement.

We played the first nine on the Indian course. We think this must be one of the original nine-holes as it is a bit narrow and the homes along the course are a bit dated. But the landscaping is lush and with so many cactus and flowers blooming, it was a very pleasant nine.

Lantana. So pretty.

And how about this ten-inch wide bloom on an Organ Pipe Cactus? This flower is so fragrant - nearly intoxicating.

And we also found this interesting lawn ornament along the golf course.

We played our second nine on the Royal Course. This nine is quite a bit more open and follows along homes built with on-site RV garages. Dave and I toured through these homes a few years ago and found them first-class... if you need a house and a RV garage in the desert.

Which, incidentally, we did not.

DT whacked the ball on nearly every hole. He constantly complains about his game, but he is a very good golfer.

His wife, on the other hand, never rarely complains about her game and is a very terrible golfer. She shot 118 today and is over-the-moon excited.

Plus, she was really able to spend the afternoon snapping photos of pretty flowers while pretending to golf.

After our 18-holes, Marci & Jim joined us at our RV for nibbles and cocktails as the sun set. It was a lovely day!

On a more somber note, Reader Jim's 9-year-old granddaughter, Deanna Meade, has returned to St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis to start her chemo in preparation for a stem cell transplant. (My Mother had a very successful stem cell transplant at OHSU in 1999.) I encourage all my Dear Sweet Readers to send Deanna a card, a note, a Postcard from the Road - anything to let her know you are thinking of her and praying for her recovery! Deanna's latest address is:

Room 203, Deanna Meade

Until my next update, I remain, your Big Hitting correspondent.
