Great news from Memphis

Indio, California: First, I must report miraculous news about Reader Jim's 9-year-old granddaughter, Deanna, who is under-going treatment for cancer at St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis. From Deanna's Mom, Meagan, via her facebook page:

"We received wonderful news today!!! Deanna's spinal tap came back fine and the mri she had tuesday showed no sign of tumors!! The two tumors that she had when we went home on our break are gone! They said that all of the bad spots have improved as well. Thank you God! We still have a very tough road ahead but this news helps take a load off of us. We are going through prep for chemo this week and she will go inpatient Saturday. We will still have at least 4 months of chemo to try and kill what the radiation shrunk so please keep her in your prayers. I do know that miracles happen and we are thanking God for what we have seen so far."

I urge everyone of you to send Deanna a postcard, greeting card, note or letter. Send several - Deanna needs our support as she fights through the next four months of chemo.

Our day was fairly routine. We woke to a beautiful sunny day and enjoyed coffee on the patio. Then we exercised. Then I went out to get the Perfect Look SuperCut strip-mall haircut. Duly trimmed, we went for lunch at Jake's Pizza (Hwy. 111 & Adams, left of the Office Depot).

Because we had each gone on extra long runs this morning, we had salads for lunch.

DT ordered a Caesar Salad.

He always orders a Caesar Salad.

I ordered the house salad. A "small" house salad. It was huge and loaded with lettuce, tomatoes, broccoli, olives, shredded mozzarella (and it usually comes with a bunch of sliced pepperoni, though I declined).

We might enjoy a healthy salad, but we are not crazy. Who in their right mind would pass-up a chance to enjoy the specialty of Jake's Pizza - a Minnesota-style hamburger pizza. I know it sounds crazy, but those Minnesota pizza makers know their stuff. Just try one the next time you are in town.

We spent the afternoon at the RV resort and much later drove out to Palm Springs - about 22 miles - to meet Dad for dinner at the Blue Coyote Grill. One of my all-time favorites, Blue Coyote has the best black beans I have ever tasted and their beans are vegetarian. Low fat. High in fiber. Delicious and good for you! Yummy!

I ordered two chicken tacos.

I always order two chicken tacos.

And a side of their perfect black beans.

My Driver - the one behind the steering wheel, not the one in my golf bag - ordered the Tampico Steak. Usual thin-cut of chewy Mexican-style beef, with a cheese enchilada, rice & beans.

Me thinks we are having beef steak from a doggie bag for lunch tomorrow.

Until my next update, I remain your cheesy correspondent.
