One of my favorite things to do (whenever possible) is to have lunch with Pam. Pam and I have been friends since our girls were about eight. Our girls are still very close (they live just a few blocks apart in Los Angeles and see each other nearly daily) and we Mom's get together several times a year to dish the dirt have lunch. We always go to the same McCormick & Schmick's restaurant, and we always order the same items.
Today, for the first time - E V E R - we had dessert. I couldn't help myself. After my healthy piece of grilled fish, the waiter brought around the dessert tray and today he offered a blueberry shortcake. What Oregonian in her right mind would turn down blueberry shortcake in August? I am only human.

No work was completed on our deck project today. I rained on and off all night and though it cleared-up during the day (DT golfed 18 holes), we had more terrible rain storms late in the afternoon. Our contractor promises the deck will be finished by the time we return from Deutschland on the 25th.

Tonight I tried a recipe from the 2009 August Bon Appetit magazine - Grilled Chicken Breasts with Honeydew Salsa. Dang, if it wasn't delicious. And, dang, if I didn't have a Serrano chili in my cart at the supermarket, but it was nowhere to be found in the fridge tonight. I tossed in a bit of dried chilies instead and it was still delicious.

Today would have been a very healthy-diet-day (if I were on a diet) except for that wonderful blueberry shortcake.
Die, McCormick & Schmick's, die.
Until my next update, I remain, your well-fed correspondent.
