It rained

I will not complain about the weather. Even though it is August, this is still Oregon and we have not had rain for 28 days. Usually I would recommend to all my RVing friends to visit Oregon in August, September and early October as we tend to have great weather during these months. Obviously this is not true when we need our deck sanded.

And, yes, folks, we do indeed need our deck sanded. Our contractor came up early this morning (I was still in bed and I am an early riser) to try yet one more "product" on the deck - a "brightener". It didn't work at all. He also tried a different sanding machine.

Wet deck

An explanation to anyone who cares... everyone else just scroll down to the pretty soup photo... our deck is wet from rain in this photo. Dry spots are lighter wood next to the house. The already sanded portion of the cedar is the light wood in the bottom of the photo. The white blob in the middle is where he sanded this morning...  Confused much?

Another view of our deck disaster

Finally, finally, finally, our contractor has agreed that the remaining un-sanded portion will indeed need to be sanded. Duh. Of course, it cannot be sanded while wet.

Know what? On Friday we are heading off to Germany for the IAAF World Track & Field Championships. Bet you the project will be finished when we return from the 9-day meet.

Our poor housesitter!

Are any of my RVing readers interested in our trip to Germany? (We will be in a hotel - not our RV... though I can't tell you how much I will miss my kitchen, comfy bed and washer/dryer.) Will you be reading RVGoddess.com from Europe? Hmmmm...

Dinner tonight was way too healthy and the ingredients are probably all ripe in your garden right now. It suddenly seemed like soup weather, so I sautéed onion and garlic in 1 Tablespoon of olive oil, added one chopped carrot, one diced zucchini, a can of drained cannellini beans, several cups of chopped kale, two chopped seeded tomatoes with a quart of chicken stock. Spices included salt, pepper and a little thyme.

Cannellini Bean & Kale Soup

I garnished the soup with a few left-over bread crusts and a bit of shaved parmesan. The soup is super low-fat and super high-fiber. Make it vegan/vegetarian by using vegetable stock and omitting the parmesan.

Life is good.

DT is overjoyed. Not only did his University of Oregon football tickets arrive (via UPS) this afternoon, we learned The Ducks have made the (regional) cover of Sports Illustrated this week. Hopefully, the SI "cover jinx" is just a rumor. We need a good year.
