Leo is out of preschool all week with a school break, so Bubba and I are entertaining him. This gives Momma a little time to rest and gives Leo a bit of special attention. It hasn't been a week, but I think Leo is reacting very well to having someone else in the house get a lot of attention.
Today, we took Leo to the Los Angeles Zoo.
Someone had three rides on the carousel.
We had walked three miles, so took a break and had a little something to eat in a zoo cafe, then took Leo home for a nap. It was a very nice day!Our Girl is basically right back on-track. No one would imagine she delivered a baby six days ago. Lisa looks fantastic. Tonight Lisa decided to prepare a recipe from the Mast Brothers Chocolate: A Family Cookbook she received from Lenny on her birthday: Steak with Nibs and Peppercorns. The procedure requires blending multi-colored peppercorns with cocoa nibs and a little salt, then dry-rubbing the mixture into rib eye steaks (in this case grass-fed monsters Lisa bought at the farmers market yesterday). The steaks are grilled over a high heat.
But first, Lisa made fried squash blossoms because she found beautiful squash blossoms at the farmers market and Lenny just loves fried squash blossoms stuffed with ricotta.
Lisa left me in charge of the steaks - and a Caprese Salad: Not gonna lie - the four or us (Leo did not partake) could only finish one steak. (The steaks were over one pound EACH.) We loved the spicy peppercorn, but the cocoa was too light in flavor. (Recipe called for 6 tablespoons of mixed-colored peppercorns, 2 Tablespoons cocoa nibs and 1 Tablespoon sea salt to be rubbed over two steaks. We whirled the spices in a coffee bean grinder. Next time: 3 Tablespoons peppercorns + 3 Tablespoons Cocoa nibs + 1 Tablespoon sea salt.)
It was a very nice evening!
Until my next update, I remain, your zoological correspondent.
