Happy Hour Tuesday: Mélange

Indio, California:  My Brother and Kris have returned to their home in Colorado. Very sad having them gone - their visit was too quick.

But they had to go. New visitors arrive tomorrow!

My Driver spent the day driving (golf) and I spent the day baking breads and pastries for our next guests. Wouldn't want anyone to lack carbs starve on My Watch. But after he returned to me, we once again went out in search of a new Tuesday Happy Hour hangout.

Research for the Blog.

I hesitate to mention this just-opened (and so close to us) venue, as I am pretty sure it will soon be swamped and we won't be able to get a table. I am also here to tell you the Motorcoach Country Club is not the only place in town with a large lake and electric boats.

I know. I know. Shhhhhhh.

There is a man-made 25-acre lake, just a mile or so west of this resort, rimmed with beautiful homes. The gated community of Lake La Quinta have private boat docks and a great location for enjoying all the valley has to offer. At a central location on the lake sat a small Bed & Breakfast... until recently, when the small inn underwent a huge transformation from a B&B to a hotel - The Chateau at Lake La Quinta - with an on-site restaurant, Mélange.

Fancy!

This is the view from the patio outside the hotel restaurant - looking northish towards Joshua Tree National Park.

During our Happy Hour, we saw so many boats cruising along the canals and hot air balloons rising up and down on the thermals, we could have been at our own resort. Except, of course, everyone knows the clubhouse at our resort is closed on Tuesdays.

Dave was starving after his golf and I was starving after my busy day, so we went straight for the small-but-loaded Happy Hour menu:

Wagyu Beef Sliders on Brioche buns (ordered without bacon) $9

Two whale-sized anchovy fillets on the Caesar Salad, $7

Flatbread (it's a Pizza Margherita), $9

Dinner is served.

Everything was simply delicious, especially that lovely salad. An early dinner for the T's tonight. I had a martini and DT had their house special margarita (with muddled jalapeno).

We looked around the hotel and restaurant. Everything seems top-notch to me. This hotel would be perfect for Motorcoach Country Club owners needing a nearby hotel for visiting guests.

The Chateau at Lake La Quinta offers 30+ rooms on a quiet lake-front street, yet walking distance to restaurants, shops and a movie theater. There is a pool at the hotel.
