Indio, California: May The Fourth Be With You!
Marci and Jim are leaving for the season soon as well, but wanted to get in one more round of golf with us before our northern treks. On May 1st, many of the local golf courses drop their rates (due to the heat and the fact half of the population leave), so Dave booked a tee time at Eagle Falls. $55 - a real steal in this town. Eagle Falls is a very popular course. I can't tell you how many times I have dropped Dave there to play a round with his friends. Today was the first time I have played Eagle Falls Golf Course on the Cabazon Indian Reservation. Eagle Falls is open to the public.
I was surprised - it was so pretty! The first impression is not promising. Golfers have to drive past the (attached) fancy resort casino and hotel, through a few parking areas, until finally reaching the golf course. The "clubhouse" and snack shop are located in two double-wide trailers. Not impressive at all, but once you enter the course it is magnificent. Lush landscaping, but also many native plants, grasses, and trees (that I suppose are so pretty because they are irrigated?). The course is dotted with so many lakes and creeks and waterfalls. There were so many pretty flowers.

On many holes, the Ladies tee-box had such a huge advantage, Marci and I drove past the guys several times.

The temperature rose to 106°, but we really were not that uncomfortable. We were using golf carts. We had plenty of ice water. A little breeze kept blowing to cool us a bit. Still, I don't think it is a good idea, nor a healthy choice, to play golf in such high temperatures (at our age!).

(Saw the falls; did not see an eagle.)
My score really improved from last week. Yeah me. 126.
I'm gonna be sore tomorrow.
Until my next update, I remain, your hot correspondent.
