Dragon Slayers

Borrego Springs, California: The weather today was the best of the week (so far). Outstanding. We ran, we tidied the bus and we spent a lot of time outdoors.

Kathy & Woody were heading out on a walk as I was returning from my run. Isn't Kathy sweet to snap a photo of me speeding along? Such a pathetically slow situation... but no matter how slow I run, I'm still running faster than anyone laying on their couch. 5.24 miles for this old fat lady today.

In the afternoon, Woody and Kathy took us for a drive to see a few Galleta Meadows sculptures they had yet to see.

This scorpion is poised to attack a grasshopper...

...but DT seemed like an easier target.

The newest addition to the collection is a huge serpent/dragon/rattle snake creature. Notice how the creatures snakes in and out of the ground? It even passes under the road at one point. Incredible.

Across the road is the end of the snaking critter, the "rattler".

We drove to a citrus stand for a massive $3 bag of oranges, and then headed up the S22, towards Ranchita, to stop at the same vista point we visited a few days ago.

Lewis Clark DT points out different landmarks from the scenic overlook.

The air was a bit clearer today than last Wednesday. The Salton Sea, the largest lake in California, is easy to see in the distance.

This afternoon, I baked a few taters that needed some attention and made gnocchi... except, after our indulgences yesterday, decided to make them heart-healthy. Egg whites instead of eggs and olive oil and sage instead of butter and sage. Toasted walnuts as a garnish, instead of cheese. Served with tossed greens, the meal was carb-happy for the runner in us.

Until my next update, I remain, your tired correspondent.

RV PARK: The Springs at Borrego RV Resort & Golf Course. One of our very favorite RV parks on the west coast. Sites are large and each has a nice cement patio and picnic table. Cement 50 amp pull-throughs with full service. There are also different varieties of citrus trees all over, so you will never be lacking for a cocktail garnish in the winter. Wifi. Fabulous warm pool and many hot tubs - all from their own hot springs! Fitness center, library, community rooms. Regulation 9-hole golf course. Recycling. Huge fenced dog park! We are paying $69 per night for a "premium" site.
