Coos Bay, Oregon: We did not have a very exciting day, but did enjoy a very pretty drive from Eugene over to the Oregon Coast. A bit of sun peeked through the clouds occasionally and it did not rain. Our route, along Highway 38, followed the Umpqua River to Reedsport, where we took a left at the ocean and went about another 25 miles south to Coos Bay.
We only stopped once - at the Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area about 5 miles east of Reedsport. Over 100 elk make this area their year-round home and today we saw two large groups of females and found a group of about two dozen males directly in front of the viewing platform! Lucky Ducks! We stayed for about an hour - photographing the beautiful beasts and sharing a sandwich.
The boys were everywhere, chomping away happily on the grasses and reeds growing along the creek side.
Mostly they were shy and only showed us their backsides.
Gorgeous creatures! At the end of next month, they will begin fighting each other for the attention of the females on the other side of the meadow - but today, they were all buddy-buddy-like.
This young little guy is not going to get lucky this year, but he at least showed us his face today. He went down to the water and took a drink.
Enough fauna. How about some flora?

We are again at The Mill Casino RV Resort in Coos Bay, Oregon. Dad and Mary arrived in their motorhome last night. Family reunion on the Oregon Coast! We did not get a bay-front site this time. Not sure what is going on in Coos Bay this weekend, but all the hotels are full. Luckily, the siblings planned ahead. RV sites, hotel rooms and restaurant reservations are confirmed!
Still, the view over Coos Bay is so pretty and it is NOT RAINING!Until my next update, I remain, your coastal correspondent.
