Continuing South

Bakersfield, California: Just driving today. Straight south down straight I-5. Nothing much to report. Nothing much to see. Barely a hill. Almonds orchards. Orange groves. Raisins. Cows. Dirt. We both had a day of rest from running (much needed) so left Santa Nella early (for us) and arrived in Bakersfield just after noon. We wanted to arrive early to Bakersfield to watch college football on television.

Is there no end to the excitement in our lives?

Even though, apparently, Bakersfield has the worst air quality in Our Entire Nation, there is a lot to love about blooming flowers (even roses!) and an 80° afternoon in November.

Especially when it is 48 degrees in Portland, Oregon. Grey skies.

Our early departure did not allow us breakfast, so we went directly to the on-site restaurant to watch Cal v USC and have a healthy snack.

Frickles. Only an evil genius could take a fat-and-calorie-free food (dill pickle), add batter and deep-fry the spears to cancel it all out.

Oh, well, don't forget those yummy healthy beans simmering away in my slow cooker in the kitchen sink.

Dave and I enjoyed a much-needed relaxing day. We watched a wholelotta college football. Napped. I served a super yummy chopped salad with the delicious beans. Needle pointing occurred. Tomorrow, we continue to our humble campsite in Indio, California.

Until my next update, I remain, your warm correspondent.
