Chili Cook-off

Indio, California: The desert was blessed with a good rainstorm Monday. Not a gully-washer, but a steady rain for several hours. I bet the Ocotillo will be blooming in a few days, and I bet the RV washing crews will be blooming with money in the next few days. The Magna Peregrinus needs a bath.

A rare view from our motorhome window - clouds

Perfect chili weather? Perfect timing for the First Annual Chili Cook-off. Our friend, Tim, organized this new event at our RV resort. (I was asked to participate, but we had planned to be away, and changed our plans too late to enter. Next year?)

There was a blind taste-test by a panel of judges on the first floor of the Yacht Club building, while upstairs the cooks stood behind their crockpots filled with their special concoctions, handing out samples.

The judges gave their official awards, and attendees voted for their favorite chili - the "People's Choice Award". The event was free, with sponsored beer, wine, margaritas and all the chili "fixings" a taster would need. Keeping shy of any pork... I mostly went around and snapped photos of my friends.

My pretty friends - Colleen and Joann - sharing their chili

Our friend, Tim, organized the event, and our pretty neighbor Sally - in her awesome apron -
won the "People's Choice Award" with her Bavarian-style Chili (goulash).

From the turnout, the fact they ran out of chili, beer, wine and margaritas... I would conclude the inaugural event was a success and hopefully I will be able to enter next year.

With the weather improving, we enjoyed another beautiful evening sky. Until my next update, I remain, your hungry correspondent.
