Every morning we are in Bend, DT and I stop somewhere for breakfast on the way from the hotel to my family home. Why? Well, we usually get a late start because we both exercise in the morning... miss the "free" breakfast offered by the hotel... and breakfast for my Dad occurs at around 6 o'clock in the morning.
Luckily there are many great places to start your day in Bend, Oregon. On Saturday we visited Westside Bakery & Cafe. Open only for breakfast and lunch, the Westside is part bakery, part bar, part museum - and they also serve great food!

The walls of the Westside Cafe & Bakery are covered with taxidermified animal heads, art, antiques, this and lots of that.

You can have breakfast with a pirate and a naked girl.

DT had the daily special - house-made corned beef hash. He thought the taste was great, but it was a bit mushy.

I ordered one of their "scrambles". The Greek Scramble has roasted potatoes, scrambled eggs, tomatoes, artichoke hearts, bell peppers, kalamata olives, red onion and feta cheese. Delicious, but (again!) way too much food.

Sunday we stopped at Chow, another breakfast and lunch-only cafe. Diners are served in the rooms of an old house. Chow proudly serves as many products from local purveyors as possible.

I could not resist trying the Pumpkin-Ginger Pancakes with fresh blueberries.

The fresh ginger in the pancakes was completely pleasing - especially with the wonderful maple syrup. Again, huge portions. Even with DT's help, I couldn't finish even half - and I have a very healthy appetite and had jogged three miles!

I highly recommend the Pumpkin Pancakes (with blueberries) at Chow in Bend!

My Driver had the Breakfast Burrito with black beans, scrambled eggs, chilies and cheese - topped with salsa and served with a side of polenta (I call them grits at breakfast.) The Breakfast Burrito is garnished with an interesting collection of micro-greens and sprouts. Amazingly enough - our breakfast was under $20!

DT and I drove home this afternoon, but I want to leave you with one more image from beautiful Bend, Oregon. We finally had a view of all the surrounding mountains this morning.
Until my next update, I remain, your well-fed correspondent.
