Big Day in Borrego

Borrego Springs, California: I was up early this morning to take advantage of the Friday morning Farmer's Market at Christmas Circle in Borrego Springs. Having been to many farmers markets, I was so surprised at the number of vendors and variety of goods for sale at the market in the pretty city park of this very, very small community!

I found free-range, vegetarian, whatever eggs at the market! They were so large, the lid to the carton could not close! This vendor also had a fabulous supply of fingerling potatoes, sweet potatoes and Yukon Gold potatoes. How is a girl to choose?

DT bought me a beautiful bouquet of red, pink and white carnations for Valentine's Day! Isn't he sweet? Especially since he didn't even go to the Farmer's Market with me.

DT makes me so happy.

I bought eggs, potatoes, garlic, olive oil, hummus, radishes, carrots, arugula, broccoli rabe and strawberries at the Farmer's Market this morning. I also had a lot of fun chatting with the farmers and vendors. Most came from the San Diego area - bakers, butchers, someone selling avocado tamales (?), farmers, fishmongers and a few crafts people. Amazing variety for this teeny little town, but I am going to venture a very welcome variety because the of the many shoppers (and the local grocery store is bare-bones at-best).

Our friends, Marci & Jim, drove down from their winter home in Palm Desert to golf with us today in Borrego Springs. This is their first visit to Borrego Springs. We have been telling them for years that Borrego Springs is fabulous... so they finally decided to see for themselves.

Dave made a tee time for 11 o'clock. The drive from the Palm Springs area is just over one hour.

Look at these handsome fellows!

Terry & Marci

And their lovely wives!

We golfed at our RV resort. The Springs at Borrego RV Resort has a regulation 9-hole course... we played it twice. For some reason, the second nine was easier than the first. The weather was outstanding - high 60's and NO WIND - and we enjoyed a lovely round of golf.

Look at our views!

The 9th/18th hole is brutal. You have to tee-off over water and then lay-up before hitting over more water to reach the green. The campground is just to the right in this photo.

Marci & Jim are staying at the Palms at Indian Head Resort. After golfing, they drove up to the hotel and no one was at reception to greet them. Then Jim noticed a small sign suggesting "self check-in". He found a packet with his name. The packet included a room key and all sorts of pamphlets on things to do in the area. This was a first!

We met Marci & Jim at their hotel for dinner at the very-busy Krazy Coyote restaurant. Our meals were delicious and our service was outstanding. After dinner Marci & Jim gave us a tour of their hotel room. The Palms at Indian Head Resort was built in the 50's, when Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley came to Borrego Springs to escape the "hustle & bustle of Palm Springs". Marci & Jim's room was very nice - with a king bed, and a large sitting area - with a fridge and microwave. Every room adjoins a huge 2nd-floor patio over-looking the swimming pool. One entire wall of each hotel room is glass... so we had a few very interesting insights walking along the balcony to tour their room!!!

Until my next update, I remain, your over-par correspondent.

RV PARK: The Springs at Borrego RV Resort & Golf Course. One of our very favorite RV parks on the west coast. Sites are large and each has a nice cement patio and picnic table. Cement 50 amp pull-throughs will full service. There are also different varieties of citrus trees all over, so you will never be lacking for a cocktail garnish in the winter. Slow wifi. Fabulous warm pool and many hot tubs - all from their own hot springs! Fitness center, library, community rooms. Regulation 9-hole golf course. Recycling. Huge fenced dog park! We are paying $64 per night for a "premium" site.
