Indio, California: Hello from 80° Indio! It is so lovely to be back to our winter base camp. We had a great stop-over in Las Vegas. We didn't gamble, just slept a lot and relaxed - and a great visit with Cory (Mary & Steve's #4).
Saturday afternoon, we met Cory at the Burger Bar (home of a $60 burger - made with Waygu Beef, foie gras and shaved truffles - that we did not order) in the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino to watch the Duck v Stanford basketball game. We scored a private booth with a private TV, but our luck ended there - the Ducks lost AT HOME to the 'Furds. It is going to be a long season.

Our day was also great because we spent three hours with this gorgeous girl. Those cheek bones! I only asked Cory 368 questions about her new boyfriend.
Pretty good for me. Record low.
After the Duck loss (and the 49er win), I was pretty-much done-in for the day. I forced myself to walk around the shops and casino to stay awake, but collapsed into bed with an ice pack on my injured foot and the TV remote aimed at Downton Abbey. What kinda of loser goes to bed at 9p in Las Vegas?
Me.
We were on the road to Indio by 8 o'clock this morning, driving 4 hours through the desert to reach our local favorite taco joint for lunch.

We are now on our 4th load of laundry (we left for a quick trip and have been away eight nights), my hair has been cut way too short, and I prepared a home-cooked VEGAN rice bowl with brown basmati, roasted broccoli and baked teriyaki tofu.
Just what we needed after eight days of restaurant meals.
Gene (Mom's companion) is now with Mom in Salt Lake City. She had a day off yesterday (Sunday). She was anxious for a good rest after two tough days of physical, occupational and speech therapy. Today, the rehab staff were right back putting her through the paces. Mom sounded great this evening when we talked with her. Thank you all for the good thoughts and prayers - again - it is working!!!
Until my next update, I remain, your "tomorrow, I'm going to try to put on a shoe" correspondent.
