All Shook Up

Merced, California: This morning, DT and I went on long runs around the now-defunct Castle Air Base. It is virtually impossible to go for a short run on the base. The roads parallel a landing strip - a landing strip long enough that My Father-in-Law could routinely land B-52s on the base. Nearly 2.25 miles long, if you are curious. That, Dear Readers, is a long piece of concrete. There is no such thing as a "short jog" while running on the air base. I love running at Castle. No traffic. Miles of pavement where old blind ladies like me can run without (much) risk of tripping. Quiet. And flat. Did I mention flat? One good thing about airport runways - they are always flat.

After pounding the pavement, DT and I headed into town for the final show of All Shook Up presented by Playhouse Merced. Our niece, Meghan, had a starring role in the show.

Of course she did!

All Shook Up is a two-act musical, featuring the songs of Elvis Presley. The scenario is about what happens when a hot young guy shows up - on his broken-down motorcycle - and shakes up a small town (where nothing ever happens). After singing about a zillion Elvis songs, everyone falls in love!

If only life were that simple.

Not sure about Elvis, but I am fairly certain Prozac could be completely eliminated from the American pharmaceutical buffet if everyone sang a little more Jimmy Buffett.

Just an idea.

Until then, we have All Shook Up and the thousands of community theater enthusiasts who entertain us across the country. The talent in your hometown might just surprise you - get tickets to the next performance in your town!

After the show, the brothers grilled burgers and we had another fun laughter-filled evening in Merced.

Until my next update, I remain, your shaken (not stirred) correspondent.

RV Park:  We are staying at the 6-space RV park at the Castle Air Museum. Full hook-up back-in sites. No bathhouse, no laundry. $25.
