Los Angeles, California: Our adventure today brought us once again to Griffith Park - this time to visit the Autry Center, named for one of the museum founders, Gene Autry.
Special Delivery - Douglas Van HowdThe Autry Museum is dedicated to sharing experiences of the people who settled the west - cowboys, Chinese immigrants, gold miners - and they also have over 250,000 significant Native American artifacts - from one of the most extensive collections in the world. There are many rifles and saddles to see!
Though DT and I had a much-rushed much-abbreviated tour through the museum (since we were with a two year old), we both enjoyed the art and interesting displays of western life.
Leo liked "riding a horse" at the museum
The family in the outdoor "gold mining" area
Murals at the Autry CenterThe "exploration" area for children is awesome. Kids can unpack treasures from China and "work" in a Chinese restaurant. They can also pan for gold (on weekends).
Even a bike rack is a place to play
Indian tacos from the on-site cafe
All-in-all, a great museum for the entire family.
Leo had my camera on the way back to the house. He snapped a self-portrait.NOTE TO READERS: I will be taking the next several days off due to the Yom Kippur holiday. Happy New Year!
Until my next update, I remain, your cowgirl correspondent.
