2026 Prefontaine Classic

TrackTown USA: Fog surrounded our RV this morning. Our camp chairs were wet. It was cold. Not a good day for a track meet? You would think... but by the time we reached Historic Hayward Field it was very warm. Oregon weather changes so quickly.

Dave and I started our morning with a nice brunch (held in hospitality next to the stadium) with Mary and Steve. Lovely omelets and sparkling wine from Kings Estate.

The Prefontaine Classic is a very fast-paced event as it is broadcast live on NBC/Peacock, so every race must begin at a very structured time.

We made a bit of a detour to see what was happening with Dave's freshman dorm. The four-dorm complex has been completely torn down (should have been torn down in 1980...) and will become a sports complex for beach volleyball.

Volleyball anyone?

After returning to our humble RV, we had traditional potato salad (homemade yesterday) and DT grilled hotdogs and buns. Delicious and easy and few dishes to wash. After our feast, we watched the meet (recorded) again!

No more track and field. Tomorrow we rest.

Until my next update, I remain, your Independent correspondent.
