Ten Ten

The calendar has the interesting configuration of 10-10-10 today. Fun, but for years we have celebrated October 10 because it is Taiwan National Day (Taiwan's 4th of July, if you will). If you have been a reader of this site for any time at all, you know we lived in Taiwan (1986-1988) for DT's job. It was a great experience. We made so many friends and were able to travel quite a bit throughout Asia.

Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial in Taipei, Taiwan

Taiwan is a beautiful island nation with lush forests, ancient temples, modern skyscrapers, incredible food and generous, friendly people.

I was going through photos from our years in Taiwan this week. I have many photos of tourist destinations - temples, memorials, museums, parks - but most of our photos look like this:

Chinese banquet

DT (first man on the left) had a 'stache in the Taiwan days. I think this is a business dinner... can't recall. Maybe because we went to 3,942 banquets while we lived in Taipei. (Or something like that.)

Confucius Temple, Tainan

We traveled quite a bit around Taiwan, visiting the famous Taroko Gorge, beaches andSun Moon Lake.

We also liked taking the train to the very southern tip of the island to Kenting - where the weather was warm and the beaches were so lovely.

DT ran in several road races while we were living in SE Asia. Apparently Lisa went with her Dad to this race. I don't remember this race. It was before the internet and blogs. I had to scan these photos before placing them on this page! Practically prehistoric.

Thanks for letting me go down memory lane today, because I am in a funk. Red & Marcia flew back to Chicago this morning. Something about jobs and responsibilities, they claimed... but I really loved having them here and will be gloomy for a few days.

Maybe the Chinese banquet we are planning to attend this evening will help lighten my mood?

Until my next update, I remain, your ten-ten correspondent.

PS: I am happy to report Oregon Duck football player (and sprinter on the track team), Kenjon Barner, has been released from the hospital and has returned to Eugene! I am also happy to report the Ducks have a bye next week, so Kenjon can recover from his traumatic injury. Third announcement? Ducks have moved up to #2 in the polls. GO DUCKS!
