La Quinta, California: We had a tee time this afternoon, and even though the temperatures were hovering in the high 60s, I put on a sweater and hit the links. I was rewarded with a par on the second (par 3) hole... and then it all went to &*$# - but still had fun.

We found a few American White Pelicans hanging out on the third hole. There used to be thousands of the birds wintering at the Salton Sea (just east of us), but with the salt levels rising so much in the lake, fish in the lake can't survive. No fish to eat; no pelicans.

It was getting nasty, so we bailed-out after 14 holes and went home to enjoy our Guinness and corned beef (patiently waiting in the slow cooker). I steamed the cabbage separately.

Until my next update, I remain, your Irish correspondent.
