Seattle Wins

Yuma, Arizona: Another full day in sunny Yuma. Dave and I ran this morning and after my cool-down, I toured through an Open House in this RV resort. This park has regular campsites for sale or rent, but also allows owners to build little houses on their campsites - and not little casitas allowed at our RV resort, or park models allowed at most Yuma RV parks. This place has 1000+ square foot adobe homes, some with two stories. Owners can keep a space for their RV or just build a regular house... well, a regular little house.

The model home I toured today had an open living area. The kitchen featured granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. The master had dual sinks with a tiled shower and there was another powder room with a stacked washer/dryer. An extensive patio flowed from the living area and off the patio was a staircase leading to a large deck, outdoor kitchen and guest suite with a private bath. The place was offered at $280,000. Seemed a bit expensive for a teeny house in a RV park and I asked the sales agent why someone would build/buy a house in a RV park. She said their customers were mostly couples who had given up driving their motorhomes, but still enjoyed the spoiled lifestyle, 24/7 security, pools, activities, friends, restaurant, etc., that a RV resort offers.

We didn't have time to make an offer, because we had to be to Dad & Mary's RV resort for their 5th Annual Super Bowl Party. This is the third time we have attended the party! They play games and deep-fry/smoke many turkeys. People bring side dishes. Alcohol is consumed. Some attendees eat dessert first.

The first game was a dice game. Six players (1-through-6) lined-up in front of a 6x6 grid. 3 represented Seattle; 3 represented Denver. Dice were rolled and if your number came up, you took a step. The first person to cross the grid won and scored a point for the team they represented. The game continued until the Seahawks or Broncos had three points.

Renee crossed the line first in the game our family played. (Please note I wore my Washington Redskin sweater today.)

While games were played, neighbors were bringing over appetizers. Dad made his famed sausage jalapeno poppers.

Next up was baseball corn hole - women v men.

Mary, Dad & DT playing baseball

The men won this game. I played for the first time this year and made it to first base on my first throw!

Then it was time for food!

Deep-fried turkey.

Smoked turkey.

It may be difficult to read, but the sign inserted into the turkey reads "Deep Fried Seahawk". Oops.

We watched the game with Dad and Mary. Mary is from Colorado and My Dad is a long-time Seattle fan. They wore opposing jerseys all day, but only Dad was smiling at the end of the game. I was hoping for a more exciting contest, but really enjoyed the commercials and Bruno Mars.

All-in-all, a very good day.

SLOGGER REPORT: Jogged two and a half miles.

Until my next update, I remain, your super correspondent.

RV PARK: The Palms RV Resort - we have a large back-in site (I think they are all back-in sites) with 50 amp, water, sewer, cable and free wifi. Pool, bathhouse, laundry, etc. We are paying about $48 per night.
