Salmon Run Golf Course

Brookings, Oregon: My dream half came true. Only partially foggy this morning at the shore. We also woke to good news - Oregon football once again is gracing the west-coast cover of Sports Illustrated.

Duck quarterback, #8 Marcus Mariota, celebrated his 20th birthday today. Nice gift, SI, nice gift.

Curse? What curse?

By the time we arrived three miles up the Chetco River to Salmon Run Golf Course, there was no fog. No clouds. Just a beautiful sunny day - though the temperatures stayed in the mid-50's.

1st hole at Salmon Run Golf Course - Brookings, Oregon

This beautiful course is carved out of forest once owned by a timber company. There are several creeks meandering through the property and the links have been positioned to have the creeks cause as much trouble as possible! A really difficult and hilly course. We were able to take advantage of a $30 per person rate that included a cart... which is a good thing - this course needs a cart.

I had a very difficult time with this course. Since I do not hit very far - and usually hit pretty straight - my drives were okay on this very narrow course. But I had a very difficult time on the approach shots and I can't putt to save my life. After 15 holes, I was O V E R.

Kathy, DT and Woody stuck it out to the very end. We all agreed, this is a course you need to play again. Too many narrow holes where the flag was not visible until the second shot. Hate that.

We arrived back to the motorhomes in time to catch a gorgeous sunset:

We then decided to visit a hole-in-the-wall pizza joint, Zola's, in the marina. Zola's has a wood-fired pizza oven and great reviews. We all really enjoyed Zola's salads, wings and pizza. (We were really hungry.)

RV PARK: Beachfront RV Park at the Port of Brookings - Just a parking lot with full hook-ups on sandy gravel. Beach-front sites are 30-amp; back row have 50-amp service. Laundry. Wifi. We paid $41 per night. Too expensive for the services, but a pretty good deal when you consider the view.
