Newport, Oregon: We are on vacation so had a very relaxing day and didn't do much touristing. The weather was chilly overnight and we had to use our radiant floor heaters! In July! Catching up: last night we gave April's at Nye Beach another try. It was again a mistake. Our appetizer was lovely, but my sole was too salty to eat. Thankfully our anniversary picnic lunch was perfect, because dinner was a big disappointment.

This morning we woke to more fog and ran in cool weather, but by lunchtime the clouds had gone and it proved to be a really nice day. My cousin's daughter, Kara, was in town (camping at a nearby state park). We asked her to join us for lunch.

Since today is National French Fry Day, it seemed appropriate to have fish and chips... except I had eaten halibut fish & chips the other night at The Rogue... so today I had albacore fish & chips at The Rogue. The tuna is fresh-caught locally and never frozen! Delicious.

After lunch, the three of us drove north across the bridge and spent the afternoon poking around the shops in Old Town and watching the fishing and crabbing boats come and go.

Fun times to randomly be in the same spot as a relative!

There has been quite a bit of development on our casita in Indio:

The workers are starting to lay down the pavers on the drive and walkways.

And the brick is going up/on.

We just celebrated a birthday in this family. Our niece, Meghan, celebrated with a little trip with her parents. Brother Bill, Meghan and Ginger enjoyed a few days and a gelato in Venice Las Vegas. Happy Birthday, Meghan!

Someone else having a birthday very soon:

Baby Leo is turning one in just a few weeks. How did this happen so quickly? Grandpa and I video chatted with Leo this afternoon (via iPhone) and I sang to Leo. He clapped and clapped. My personal groupie.

Keeping in the "relaxing day" mode, this evening we walked to the teeny Rogue Distillery tasting room (basically in the RV park!) for a cocktail.

The Rogue Distillery

We stayed "home" tonight. I cooked an easy vegetarian (I'm fished-out) dinner and we watched the Diamond League London track meet on television. True love.

Shabbat Shalom!

Until my next update, I remain, your caught-up correspondent.
