Out & About in Park City, Utah

Park City, Utah: Our delivery duties behind us, we spent the day exploring the Park City area. Mary sent a photo today, letting us know she is right on-task installing the window coverings:

Dave drove the car to a trail-head to run five miles over a very hilly course. I can't stand to run hills decided to jog on the trail we can see directly below our motorhome.

I made a bad decision. There is a trail running along the little creek. We have been watching people walking, hiking and running on the trail over the past few days. So, I laced up my NIKEs and hit the trail. The trail was incredibly narrow and twisted here and there and the sage brush scratched my legs! I was miserable... but kept going. Luckily, after a mile, there was an detour into a neighborhood and I was able to finish my exercise without further damage.

I miss my treadmill.

We spent the rest of the morning driving in the mountains above Park City, Utah. Amazing views, amazing homes, amazing ski slopes and amazing resorts. One especially impressive resort, the Montage Resort & Spa is under construction and set to open in December. The Montage looks like a mountain castle. Most of the resorts feature ski-in/ski-out access from your room or condo.

The highest point on our drive today (in the Honda, of course) was Guardsman's Pass at just over 9,600 feet! This view looks east. We continued on a circular route down the valley and back to Park City.

We stopped for lunch at Cafe Rio Mexican Grill, in the new Redstone development in Park City. (Redstone is one of those big outdoor malls with big-box stores and smaller shops and restaurants and, of course, a multiplex cinema.) Mary had told us about Cafe Rio, and we wanted to give it a try.

Mary was right (and coincidentally, Mary and I ordered the same thing - a grilled chicken taco). The tortillas are the best part of the meal. So flavorful. Cafe Rio is a Salt Lake City-based chain in Utah, Nevada, California, Colorado, Idaho and Arizona. You order at the counter and walk-down the production line as your meal is prepared before your eyes, then placed in an aluminum pan. (Gosh, I hope they recycle.)

DT ordered a chicken quesadilla and loved his lunch too. The restaurant does not serve alcohol and the soft-drinks are divided by with/without caffeine.

Down the street from Cafe Rio, we stepped inside the mostly-Utah-only bakery chain,Kneaders.

We were only looking for a few sandwich rolls (which we did purchase), but I couldn't help photographing their lovely pastries and cookies.

Then DT went back to the RV and I found a salon for a pedicure! Would you even believe I sat in a chair next to a woman vacationing here from my own home town? What are the chances? (DT would say 100%.)

For dinner tonight, we went downtown Park City to Cisero's. It was mediocre, at best. My martini wasn't even cold. Our meals were quite uninspiring. Do not eat at Cisero's in Park City. (Just my opinion and I could be wrong.) PS: the service was excellent and energetically cheerful.

Until my next update, I remain, your Park City correspondent.
