TrackTown, USA : It seems a bit strange to me that only one week ago we were dining in Sacramento with Brother Steve and Gina. This week of northerly travel has passed so quickly, yet it seems that meal was weeks ago.
After another conference call, and a late check-out, we hit the freeway north exactly 100 miles. Exit 99 to exit 199. Canyonville to Coburg. Seven Feathers RV Resort to Premier RV Resort. Seven Feathers will host a massive rally this weekend, sponsored by Guaranty RV. Before we exited at noon, Guaranty had a dozen or more motorhomes positioned throughout the park for campers to tour. Or buy.
Escaped is more the term. Our bus is nearly 10 years old. Is it time to upgrade? Downsize?
Nope. We are still happy. (But, we didn't look.)
As we pulled into our reserved campsite at Premier RV Resort, we noticed several changes since our last visit in October (on our way south to Indio). Premier now have several teepees for rent, a play structure for kids, an improved group picnic pavilion, and all sorts of water features. They have done nothing to improve the fitness center. (Insert sad face here.)
After checking in, DT had a zillion emails to deal with. I went to the bedroom to "rest for a while" and woke up two hours later! I am a 20 minute napper, so My Husband actually went back to check on me - so confused as to my long sleep.
Sleep is a wonderful thing.
I woke refreshed (okay, I was completely groggy and discombobulated), but we made our dinner reservation at Marché, where we dined on wonderful Pacific Northwest delicacies.
The Spring Chinook are running - according to our nephew who is a professional fishing guide. Marché featured spring Chinook salmon this evening, and don't you know, we ordered a piece of this fatty perfection. It was served with all sorts of super-spring veggies: green onion, fava beans, spring peas and pea shoots. So wonderful. You may not be surprised there is a track meet in Eugene this weekend. On Friday night, there will be a smaller event, beginning at 8p pacific. It will be televised on NBCSN. The events include the men's pole vault, men's javelin throw, 800m women's race, 1500m women's race, 800m for men and a men's two mile.
SATURDAY: The best professional track meet in the world this year will be held at Historic Hayward Field on the University of Oregon campus in Eugene. The Prefontaine Classic will have women's pole vault, men's triple jump, men's high jump, 400m women's hurdles, women's 800m, men's & women's 100m, men's steeple, women's 1500m, men's 110m hurdle, women's 5000m, women's 400m, men's 200m and two men's miles - all in only a two hour TV window. The meet will be shown live on NBC at 1p pacific, and will showcase nearly every world-class athlete competing in track and field. It's like a two hour Olympics! World Champions, Olympic medalists, Olympic finalists, and cherished icons of The One True Sport will compete. If you can't watch the meet on Saturday, set your DVR. Watch it with your kids and/or grandkids. They will be amazed and inspired. It will be two hours of amazing athletics... and they save the best event for the last.
The final event at the Prefontaine Classic is always the Bowerman Mile. A mile is rarely raced at major meets, in favor of the 1500m. But at the Pre, the men's mile is the thing. The entries cover the crème de la crème in the distance, featuring the best (15 racers entered, as of today) men's milers in the world. The race is always the most anticipated of the afternoon.

RV PARK: Premier RV Park. I-5, exit 199. Large paved pull-throughs. Back-in sites line a small lake. Laundry, fitness center, club house, bath house, recycling, small store. 50 amp, free wifi. Pool in season. This park is very popular with RVers for repairs and maintenance at the many nearby RV facilities. A lot of live-ins. We are paying $57 per night.
