Cougar Canyon Golf

Canyonville, Oregon: Just as we did a year ago (on May 23rd), we played golf at Cougar Canyon in Myrtle Point. The green fees were exactly the same price ($42 per person, with cart), but we did not have anyone in front of us all day this year, and played 18 holes in just over 3 hours. (Last year we waited SO LONG on every hole, I actually fell asleep once. DT finally just leap-frogged over the offending four-some so we could get the heck outta there.)

The course is like playing in a pasture. As I wrote last year, it is like this property was once someone's farm. And the "canyon" part of the course name is apt. Cougar Creek runs through the middle of the course and steep hills climb each side of the creek.

This is the top of the south end of the course, looking north

This vista looks south, from the north end of the course.

Heed this advise: do not walk this golf course. Use a cart.

Still, I love this course because it is rich in bucolic vistas, bird song and wild life. We saw deer, ravens, robins, ducks (with babies), geese (with babies), black birds, wrens, finch and squirrels. We also heard the loudest nest of bees - but thankfully never saw them.

Debbie is no longer around, so I shot pretty dang well as myownself. I shot 120 = 60 on the front; 60 on the back, including a very rare par - on a par 3. Everyone I know would be so embarrassed to post a score of 120, but since I can easily shoot 130, I am taking this score as a good day, always knowing I am getting every dime out of my green fee.

After returning to our campsite, we watched the Giants get blasted by the Astros in Houston. Such a terrible game - waaaah.

I sautéed zucchini, red pepper, shallot and garlic. DT grilled a teeny bit of flank steak I had been marinating all day in the fridge - and we also had long grain rice with cilantro and lime.

And then we went to bed.

Until my next update, I remain, your 48-over-par correspondent.
