At the Beach

Imperial Beach, California: Dave rode his bicycle (more than 20 miles round trip) to Coronado the other day and spotted a little campground on the Pacific - not on the bay... though it is on a spit and we can see the ocean AND the bay from our campsite. We are actually directly across the bay from the Gaylord Hotel we visited Sunday. Silver Strand State Beach Park is a paved parking lot with water and electric service. It is still nearly $90 per night.

We packed up, left the fancy Sun Outdoor Resort, and drove around the bay, stopping at a grocer on the way. It was too early to check-in, so we continued to Coronado "Island" to have a look-see, found a place to park and had lunch at one of the many pretty sidewalk cafes in town. Fish tacos, of course.

After lunch, we retraced our route and checked-in to our reserved site - right on the beach. Dave set up a nice little spot on the beach and we had a great afternoon doing absolutely nothing.

It is difficult for me to get "the man who can't do nothing" to do nothing. I suppose watching boats go by is doing something?

We were treated to a spectacular sunset:

Dave grilled chicken and I provided a Greek Salad. It was a very delicious (and not photographed) meal. After dark, a long C-Class RV - filled with a French family of eight living in Mexico City - slipped-in next to us. This was their first night in the rental, so Dave helped them figure out how to put the slide room out and where to turn on the water heater. Dave became even more popular when he brought out a huge bowl of peanut M&Ms!

As it cooled down, we retreated to our RV and had a Yahtzee tournament. I won.

Until my next update, I remain, your beachy correspondent.
