Last Day in Paso Robles

Paso Robles, California: Not a restful night. Maybe our fellow campers had too much tequila Halloween candy, but there were several noisy events in the campground overnight that kept waking us. Maybe arguments? Maybe kids puking? The temperatures dropped down into the 40s overnight - too cold for all the drama. It had been silent the previous night, so I am blaming (without evidence) too much of too much, and we suspect many RVs will leave here today, as the rugrats have school tomorrow.

And I was right (for once). This place emptied-out by noon. Probably 40% full today. So quiet - though it may take a while to scrape-up all the smashed Snickers bars from the pavement.

We had a very lazy day. A rare lazy day for us, and a rare treat for me. I have been only using my iPad to update this blog all week, so needed to learn how to rename photos (into my file system) and get them over to my iCloud storage. A little research had me up to date in no time. No matter how many NFL games were on television today, we never turned-on the TV. We sat outside in the 72-degree sunshine. One of us was doing the New York Times crossword and one us was needlepointing. I am enjoying this canvas SO MUCH. Cannot share, as it will be a gift, but there is nothing like a perfectly painted canvas to make a stitcher sing!

Before 6p, we had an Uber fetch us for dinner at a downtown Paso Robles restaurant we had really enjoyed in 2021. Buona Tavola is situated just a block off the main square in town (where we were yesterday). The last time we were here, restaurants were just reopening after the terrible COVID pandemic, but it was fully staffed and the menu was simply outstanding. Outstanding enough we remembered it four years later.

Again, our meals tonight were fantastic, but every table in the restaurant was full (unlike 2021) and it was a lively experience.

We shared an eggplant appetizer, Dave had risotto with shrimp and mushrooms, and I ordered house-made gnocchi in a light pesto sauce. The restaurant will serve a “light” portion of their entrees, but I still could not finish.

I think butter was an ingredient?

We are planning to leave way-too-early tomorrow morning and drive all the way to our house. 100 miles longer than our usual 250-mile maximum, and we are taking Highway 101 to the Ventura freeway, to the 210… to the 10. Whatever. If we don’t make it, we have a bed and a bathroom in the back (and Lisa’s driveway half-way between) so we will be fine.

Now that I have written about updating this website the past ten days via my iPad, have you noticed any differences? Please comment below. Thank you.

Until my next update, I remain, your homeward bound correspondent.
