St. George, Utah: Fireworks were exploding all around us last night to celebrate Pioneer Day. We had to keep checking if the noise was, indeed, fireworks, or the nightly thunderstorm. But, our evening thunderstorm did not appear and we were up late watching the Giants beat the Dodgers in LA, and seeing Shohei Ohtani being struck-out twice. It was after 11p by the time we were in bed and about 2a when a very violent thunderstorm hit. This doozy was right over us. Lightning cracking, thunder clapping, rain soaking everything - and maybe cooling things down a bit? Do people in St. George ever need to water their lawn or gardens? Does it rain every evening? It's like living in Manila.
Dave had made a tee time at a nearby muni course for today. It wasn't much compared to Sand Hollow on Tuesday, but it was only $50 and I can't even remember the last time we paid only $50 to play golf. In this instance, you get what you pay for. The course, Sunbrook, was behind the big mesa in St. George. I had never been over here and had no idea this neighborhood even existed. Views from the front nine were pretty amazing.

The course marked their tee boxes with Gold, Silver, and Bronze, which I thought was fun because of the Olympics beginning this week... until we found another tee marker out in the middle of the fairway. What was this? Obviously a tee box for cheaters/old duffers/people who drive like me.

We did see many geese, a huge heron and several turtles in the ponds. One thing I have noticed by playing two golf courses surrounded by housing areas? Few swimming pools. Yes, I know it gets cold in St. George in the winter, but the summers are long and hot. Why don't you people have swimming pools?
We were back to the oven RV for a while to watch the Giants lose to the Dodgers in a day game - before heading out to an early dinner at an unnamed restaurant. I had the place bookmarked to link, but it was such an odd experience. A "fancy" restaurant, yet in a strip mall. A good menu, but with terrible service, and another Utah restaurant where they ask "will you be ordering alcohol" tonight. Dave's main course was delivered with mine, but he had cutlery and I did not . The server did not return to our table for over 10 minutes to notice I had not touched my meal due to lack of cutlery. Ugh. Not a pleasant meal... but maybe I can make a soup from DT's leftovers? Plus side: I did not have to cook tonight in our roasting RV.
Until my next update, I remain, your we are leaving this place tomorrow correspondent.
Campground Information: Temple View RV Resort - This is where we have stayed previously in St. George. It hasn't improved much and now has park models. Still, very convenient location to downtown and freeway. Pool, hot tub, laundry, bath house, putting green, shuffle board, horse shoes, fitness center, billiards room. Free wifi with daily rate. We paid less than $60 per night, for a full-hookup site on gravel with cement patio and picnic table.
When your trip is finished, I’d be interested in a post reviewing the pros and cons of your switch to a small RV. I have a 30′ very nice travel trailer, but have wondered if I’d be satisfied with something like you bought. Thanks.
