2013 RV Gift Guide

I have been gathering a few ideas for gifts especially useful to the RV traveler - though most of these gifts would be appreciated by anyone on your list. Happy Cyber-Monday, y'all:

General Gifts

Give a "Queen of the RV" travel mug from Zazzle. This design may be purchased as a travel mug, ceramic coffee mug, tee shirt or apron as well. $25. Also available in "King" version.

Who wouldn't want a cordless sweeper for Christmas? Well, probably no one... but this is one of the most-used appliances in our RV. Rechargeable, light-weight, takes up little space, bag-less, and easy to use. (Put this under the tree, with the gift tag reading "TO: our RV".) Priced around $70 at Bed, Bath & Beyond, slightly less at amazon.com.

Cafe Press has a large selection of low-priced gifts especially for RVers - Note cards, stickers, decals, aprons, signs, gym bags, tee shirts and more. Motifs for motorhomes and trailers. $2-$25.

For the RV Chef:

Tea towels from Dutch Door Press at Etsy, are the first towels I reach for at home or in the RV. The pretty towels wash-up beautifully, function perfectly and dry quickly. Three for $30.

Cuisinart CSB-79 Smart Stick 2-Speed 200-watt Immersion Hand Blender with Attachments - one small appliance chops, blends and whips. $51.

Jacobsen's Hand-Harvested Flake Finishing Sea Salt - the first people to make salt on the Oregon Coast since Lewis & Clark. (Yes, THAT Lewis & Clark.) Available from Jacobsen's Sea Salt Co., Williams-SonomaMade in Oregon and Food52 Provisions. $12.

Portable tabletop gas grill from Cuisinart. Super-compact, yet it will grill 8 burgers. Legs fold in and the unit can be carried like a suitcase. Grill tops are dishwasher safe. $120; also available with a stand for $150.

Organic Maple Syrup from New York State -  Crown Syrup from Madava Farms, outside Dover Plains, is so fabulous, it is served at the White House... so why shouldn't it be served at your house or RV? (I won't travel without a few bottles.) Rich flavors and beautiful packaging for your holiday gift giving. $16.95.

For the Fitness Buff

Safety First! Road ID offers little ID wrist bands, shoe tags and dog-tags for walkers, joggers or bicyclists. In the event of an accident, the bracelet will identify you to emergency personnel. (Mine has DT & Lisa's phone numbers and says "traveling in motorhome", so the police know where to look first.) Also available for pets. Gift certificates offered. $19 and up.

Picky Bars, developed by professional athletes, Picky Bars are gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan energy bars that taste amazing. No artificial ingredients. No refined sugars. Five flavors. $23 for ten bars.

Use a fitbit one to track your steps, calories, flights climbed and sleep patterns. This amazing little device (smaller than a pinkie finger) syncs with your smart phone/computer and lets you know when you have accomplished your goal. Visit the dashboard to track your calories, etc., if desired. Available as pictured, and as a wristband or basic clip-on pedometer. $60-$130. Available at fitbit.com oramazon.com.

For the Traveler

Bring some bling on your next RV trip with a travel-sized jewelry case from Pottery Barn. The McKenna Leather Travel Folio features two removable zippered compartments and a ring roll. Available in ivory or blue, $50. Can be monogrammed!

Good Sam Roadside Assist, because you never know when you may have a break-down and need towing. Covers your RV and autos. Good Sam is currently offering three months free with the purchase of a one-year plan.

The La Crosse Technology Wireless Weather Station uses a small remote receiver to show the outside temperature and also shows the time (atomic), date, sunset, sunrise and indoor temperature. The little dude even shows you how to dress for the weather! DT and I have used one for years, and no, we have never left the remote receiver behind! $25.

Gifts for Kids

Handmade wooden motorhome toy from Purcell Toys(Etsy shop). We bought one for Leo and were so pleased with the quality of this cute RV - just like Bubbe's bus! $24. Purcell Toys has a large selection of hand-crafted cars, trucks and even yo-yos for your little campers.

Keep 'em busy and use free child labor to make dessert! Fill the inside of the ball with your favorite ice cream recipe; fill the outside with ice and rock salt, then have the kids roll the ball around outside and the Yaylabs Freeze and Play Ice Cream Ball will create up to a quart of ice cream. Recipes included. $22-$40 at amazon.com, depending upon color and size selected.

Until my next update, I remain, your gifted correspondent.
