Sand Hollow Golf

St. George, Utah: Just a quick update today. We are beat and the weather continues to be brutal. 107 degrees today. Dave had booked a tee time at Sand Hollow Resort. He has played the course previously with his golfing buddies and thought it was an amazingly beautiful course and knew I would enjoy the scenery - if not the tough golf holes.

Beautiful Sand Hollow Golf Course in St. George, Utah.

The course is built in the desert with red rocks haphazardly strewn about, but the front nine (photo above) is on the edge of a ledge, and the back nine is built along the cliffs. Incredible, and so pretty.

We were not paired with another two-some, and pace was pretty quick, but it was very hot and we could see thunder clouds gathering again. After our round, we went to the restaurant at the clubhouse for lunch. I ordered a Irish Nacho type of thing appetizer for $12, and Dave ordered the daily lunch special: three street tacos for $10. Due to the prices, we were very surprised to be delivered massive plates of food. Three huge tacos, beans and rice and look at my potatoes:

Irish Nachos - they usually come with bacon

After eating my fill, this plate looked pretty much as it did when delivered. So much food.

Tomorrow is a state-wide holiday in Utah - Pioneer Day. It commemorates the day in 1847 Brigham Young entered what is now Salt Lake City, and Mormon settlements began. Fireworks are a big part of this celebration, which finally explains why we have been seeing firework stands all over the state, and were so confused? Why were they still selling 4th of July fireworks? Pioneer Day colors are red, white, and blue as well. Many businesses and all state offices are closed tomorrow.

Our only other activity today was to visit a grocer to load up on sparkling water and fruits. We will watch the Giants v LA on television this evening and have a Caprese salad - while the thunderstorm explodes over us in St. George.

Also, Utah will learn if they will host the 2034 Winter Olympics.

Until my next update, I remain, your tired correspondent.

Campground Information: Temple View RV Resort - This is where we have stayed previously in St. George. It hasn't improved much and now has park models. Still, very convenient location to downtown and freeway. Pool, hot tub, laundry, bath house, putting green, shuffle board, horse shoes, fitness center, billiards room. Free wifi with daily rate. We paid less than $60 per night, for a full-hookup site on gravel with cement patio and picnic table.
