Last Day in McMinnville

McMinnville, Oregon: Just a very quiet day for us again. Good thing, after today we will move to Portland and be very busy visiting with friends, golfing, dining and - oh joy - we are having a front-end alignment in the morning.

After exercising we took a drive. I suppose going on a drive is quite a splurge, but fuel in Oregon is so much cheaper than in California. This part of Oregon is simply bursting with fruit, as I said in the last post, and farmers are cutting hay fields. Farm stands offer a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, plus eggs and jams. Everything - but the hay fields - is green. Rivers and creeks are full.

Our drive took us through little Carlton. Back in my childhood Carlton was a one-stop town (and not a stop light). There was a rail station and a grain mill.

Madden Grainery

The grain mill is now a tasting room and the historic 1914 Southern Pacific train depot is - you guessed it - a tasting room. We walked around the very cute little town, interested in lunch. Many of the restaurants are only open for dinner, and the places that were open all seemed to offer sandwiches. Our SoCal selves found a Mexican place that just happened to have the Spain v Belgium World Cup on three mucho grande televisions.

By the time the game was ending, the place was nearly empty and the server was watching the game with us. She was fun, so we had a good time. She was cheering for Belgium and I was hoping the Spaniards would win - and they did.

Back to the RV to get a few things organized for our departure in the morning and enjoy our shady patio. We weren’t very hungry for dinner, so instead of a green bean and beef stir fry, we had a green bean stir fry. Just a bit of minced onion and garlic with sesame oil and soy sauce. Quick-pickled cucumber and radishes to accompany. Super messy though - though fried in a high-sided Dutch oven. Must admit, the induction burner is so easy to clean.

Moving campsites tomorrow, with a front-end alignment thrown-in along our route.

Until my next update, I remain, your drive-by correspondent.

Campground Information: Old Stone RV Resort. (Formally Old Stone Village.) This park was always nice and perfectly maintained. There is a section in the back with (nice) mobile homes which shared the resort facilities. A few years ago they put in a new clubhouse for RVers with a larger pool and super-fancy laundry room. Next door (walk there) to the famed Spruce Goose.
