Los Angeles, California: Wow, has it been a year already since Leo performed at the famed Whiskey A Go Go in Hollywood? Tonight was a bit special though as his little sister sang with another middle schooler this year.
But first, a little back-story. I was at jury duty (because I was summoned) and had no idea if I would be excused or sent home in time to leave for Los Angeles Thursday... and if I were to be excused before 2p, would I have to reappear at 8a Friday? This would be a logistical nightmare for us. Anyway, I was up very early as our gardeners showed up at sunrise to trim our palm trees.

If you have ever served jury duty, you know it is a lot of waiting around. Arriving at the 8a appointed time, we sat in the jury room until around 9a (I had brought my needlepoint "purse" project), until they showed us the rote juror video, explaining what will happen. And then we (all 130 of us) were herded into a courtroom where a Judge explained some of our juror pool would be selected for a criminal (felony) trial coming up. Then he explained the proposed dates (several weeks) the trial would last and gave a us a brief explanation of the crimes charged. I tried my best to not puke into my purse. We were then excused and asked to return to the courtroom at 9a Tuesday (19th). I was free to go to Los Angeles, but not free from my civic duty.
Dave and I hopped in the car and headed west. Leo's band (he is in the high school band) played about ten songs (and I knew several!). His guitar skills improves every day (as he plays constantly) and he can even sing! (This correspondent is highly prejudiced.) All of his groupies (family and godparents). Leo also plays flag football, basketball and golf for his school in his spare time. And surfs.

(and her family)

Lucile has been singing at a few school recitals and arts festivals - once with Leo - but tonight was her first time on stage at The Whiskey A Go Go. She sang two songs with her friend and they were very good and I could say they had a standing ovation... but there are no chairs in front of the stage at The Whiskey. Everyone stands (except for old people like us who grab one of the four booths along the side of the floor). Lucy was in her all-school play again this year and she really enjoys acting, singing... and needlepointing.

Another fun night with the family! We all went back to Lisa and Lenny's house, ate pizza and called it a night. Lucile was still in bed by the time we left in the morning.
Until my next update, I remain, your hipster correspondent.
