Indio, California: Another breezy day, but not a cloud in the sky, so I hunkered-down and decided to just run inside the resort this morning. Many distractions here today. With the BNP Paribas Open at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden this week, every tennis court in town has been hijacked as practice courts for the professionals. The Motorcoach Country Club has three beautiful courts, so we have given them over to the Big Girls & Boys. Quite a crowd of campers gathered to watch the pros hit back and forth. It is something completely out of my usual scene, so I admit to ogling a bit this morning. The tennis pros look like models playing tennis - gorgeous, lean and strong.
I watched Richard Gasquet hit with a training partner/coach. Currently ranked #10 in the world, the Frenchman has already captured the Qatar Exxon Mobil Open and theOpen Sud de France titles in 2013. Maybe his luck will continue in the desert?
The herbs have been planted and I will snap photos in a few days, after they have (hopefully) recovered from shock and are settling-in to their new home. Realized already I need stakes for my tamaters.
And Dave and I spent the afternoon doing something new. We shopped for a golf cart. Of course, this cart will most likely never be used for golfing. We will use it for tooling-around the resort.
As you may imagine, there are many, many golf cart vendors in the Palm Springs area. Some carts are actually used for golfing. Some are street-legal. Some carts are used to cruise the streets inside the countless gated communities. From bare-bones $1900 to deluxe $30,000 (seriously?), there is a golf cart for every taste and budget.
We are looking for a used/refurbished cart. Our needs are few, but specific. We want a cart that seats four and we would like all four seats to be covered by the roof. Headlights, taillights and brake lights... and that is about all we require. Bonus if the cart is green and since green seems to be the norm of golf carts, there are many used vehicles we can choose from.
We visited five different places today - from a dude who refurbishes from his shop in a storage unit situation, all the way to a fancy up-scale shop more akin to a Mercedes dealership where we were asked if we would like a drink. (Not sure if they meant water or a cocktail.)
A cart was not purchased today, but we have a lot to think about, a lot of literature to pore over and (if you can believe it) a few more dealers to visit.
We rushed back to change for dinner with our friends, Steve & Karen. They treated us to dinner at the very popular Pueblo Viejo Grill in Indio. Always good food and good service at Pueblo Veijo Grill - even though the restaurant is always completely packed. We laughed way too much and were entertained by our waiter Cesar or... Caesar or... Oscar.
LET'S MOVE IN MARCH! I have challenged y'all to get out there, lace up your sneakers and walk or jog (or the exercise of your choice) at least 30 minutes - five or six days a week in March. I'm doing this for charity and my prominent backside. How's it going for you? Please comment below. Don't forget - no sign-up is required to leave your thoughts. Just type your name or nickname in the first box and comment as you please.
I jogged 3 miles around the windy RV resort, then continued walking until my pedometer clicked-off 10,000 steps. Done and done.
Pedometer: 14,195
Miles jogged for the day/month: 3/18
Until my next update, I remain, your refurbished correspondent.
