Borrego Springs, California: Last night we tried the Italian restaurant, Assaggio Ristorante Italiano, at the airport again. We hadn't been out there for several years as we just weren't very impressed the first time. But, everyone at this RV park just raves about Assaggio, so we gave it a second chance. They have changed their menu - but it is still huge - and the prices are ridiculously reasonable. I had Veal Milanese and a huge plate of spaghetti with red sauce for $11.90. I think we will go back on our next visit to Borrego Springs.
Interesting thing about this Italian restaurant? It is operated by a family from Guangzhou, China. The owner came out to chat with us, which was why I was practicing my Chinese in an Italian restaurant in the middle of the California desert. The world is very small at times. There is no Chinese restaurant in Borrego Springs, by the way. Maybe a a family from Rome will move here and open one?
Not a lot to report today. I only left the RV resort to drive to the post office to ship Camping Journal orders. DT played golf with our neighbor, Rick. Time was spent in the 88° salt water swimming pool and 104° hot tub, but in the afternoon a strong wind came up and we hunkered-down in the RV.
We didn't even want to leave the bus to blow out go out to dinner, so I made a pizza. RV-easy and I used up a bunch of stuff from the fridge. Here is where the leftovers came into play: I had miniature fresh mozzarella balls - marinated in olive oil and herbs - that we bought at the Farmers Market last week. I chopped the cheese into little pieces and added a clove of minced garlic to the marinade. The marinade became the pizza sauce!
Topped with the chopped fresh mozzarella and a little parmesan - our pizza was ready for the oven. Our RV Advantium oven can be heated to 450 degrees, which is only about 50 degrees shy of the temperature I bake pizza at home. Not bad!
After the pie was baked, I topped it with the rest of the arugula from the Farmers Market. Guess what? Our refrigerator is empty and tomorrow morning we will go back to the Farmers Market!
Tonight, we avoided the wind while enjoying a yummy pizza and watching Duck basketball on television. The Ducks lost to Cal! At home. Dang.I leave you tonight with this lovely photo from Readers Captain Jim & Mary in Maui:

RV PARK: The Springs at Borrego RV Resort & Golf Course. One of our very favorite RV parks on the west coast. Sites are large and each has a nice cement patio and picnic table. Cement 50 amp pull-throughs will full service. There are also different varieties of citrus trees all over, so you will never be lacking for a cocktail garnish in the winter. Slow wifi. Fabulous warm pool and many hot tubs - all from their own hot springs! Fitness center, library, community rooms. Regulation 9-hole golf course. Recycling. Huge fenced dog park! We are paying $64 per night for a "premium" site.
