I attended the "Stitch & Bitch", a very humorous name for group of ladies who gather in the club house once a week to sew, knit, bead, cross stitch, embroider, needlepoint (I'm a needlepointer)... or whatever their craft may be. Lots of stitching occurs, but there is no bitching. What, exactly, do we have to complain about? The weather?
Fellow campers recently mentioned they did not know how to make a martini. What? What? What? It's like telling me they couldn't make toast. They needed to be schooled.
I froze martini glasses, skewered a few olives and set about explaining/teaching how to make a very decent martini. (Because I am a kind and considerate hostess, the cocktail was also produced with vodka, but I refuse to call that version a martini. A martini is made with gin.)
If you are going to sip a martini you had better have a little something in your belly - shaved asparagus with gruyere on puff pastry. My students were also served a smoked tuna spread with crackers.
