Our Kids Are Here

Indio, California: Dave flew to Portland Monday-Friday, so I was alone all last week. I took time away from my Little Blog and had a quiet few days. I exercised way-too-much, but still had time to relax and Our Friends (so worried about me being alone) kept me entertained and well fed.

DT flew back to Palm Springs International last night and the kids arrived early this morning for a fun-filled weekend. We had not seen our family since the Rose Bowl on January 1st. Lucy has changed SO much in only three weeks! She remains, at 5 months, the happiest and smiliest (maybe not a word?) baby on the planet.

Just after the kids arrived, Leo was all over our golf cart and could not wait to go out for a ride. Not a problem, as today our resort was hosting all sorts of activities - a car show contest and a "Denim & Diamonds" street dance - complete with live country-western music, line dancing and BBQ dinner (which we did not attend).

Don't even ask me about the above cars. They are cars. They drive around. I know nothing about cars.

Which may be why I drive a 7 (or is it 8?) year old Honda CRV?

Don't judge.

But these cars were judged. We saw three huge trophies waiting to be awarded. (Maybe I can report on the winners later? Or quite possibly I will not.)

Our little grandson, Leo, is now 3.5 years old. How is this even possible? Leo now speaks so well and really can no longer be called a baby/toddler in any way. He is all boy. This quick progression is quite sad for this Old Bubbe... but Leo is still a sweet little guy and loves to be with his grandparents.

After a fun day in the old RV park, swimming in the pool, and a gourmet lunch from Tacos Gonzales, we met around the campfire. Crystal, Brent and Woody also gathered around our cozy fire.

Dave and I served Smoked-Porter Braised Beef Short Ribs - over creamy polenta - from the latest Food & Wine. I was not too impressed... and feel terrible that I sent Brent out on a mission to find smoked porter beer (which he did, in just a few days, in the desert... which could be some sort of a miracle... for my recipe test). Though the dish was okay - served over creamy polenta - I could not taste the smoked porter at all. So sad. Lisa gave me a great idea about what to do with the left over sauce: make a lasagna with pecorino. Done and Done. (Heads up, Kris and Steve.)

We also had a tossed salad and I baked a one-layer chocolate buttermilk cake for my chocolate-lover (Leo). Life is good at Bubbe's.

Lucy, at five months. Seriously adorable!

And her brother, texting Ke$ha:

Until my next update, I remain, your happy correspondent.
