Los Angeles, California: Lisa and Lenny fell a bit ill on their trip and had to delay their return 24 hours - actually on my suggestion. While it is awful to be sick, at least they had a beautiful tropical beach view to enjoy - and they knew we would rally to accommodate their bad fortune. Lisa's friends offered to take the kids, but we know kids operate best on a schedule in their own surroundings, so decided to just keep-on-keeping-on until Lisa and Lenny returned.
Monday was another busy day. Leo had an afterschool activity at the library, then T-ball practice. Bubba handled the T-ball practice, while I stayed home (in the air conditioning) with Lucy. The weather was so hot for outdoor activity - 96 degrees - but Leo loved his practice and Dave kept Leo hydrated.
While Leo was at the library, Dave and I took Lucy to Magpie's Softserve after school.

I'm not sure Leo and Lucy really understood Mom and Dad were coming back a day late. We just kept saying they would be home soon and finally, tonight, we could say TONIGHT. AFTER DINNER.
I was running out of ideas on what to feed the kids that included vegetables. They seem to love pizza and pasta, but not the salad also served. They are vegetarian, so tonight I made a veggie stir fry with tofu. Again, Leo and Lucy chose the veggies - though I insisted on broccoli and they are currently (loved it last year!) not fans.

Must. Garnish.
This dish was served with steamed Jasmine rice and a fruit salad. Well, maybe not so much a salad...
When the kids were in Indio with us for Spring Break, I served them a bowl of cut fruit that included a small can of chunked pineapple. I like to sometimes add the can of pineapple, along with a little of the pineapple juice from the can, as it keeps cut apples and bananas from turning brown. Canned pineapple (packed in pineapple juice only) is also easier on the tummy. Both kids really liked the pineapple - especially Lucy, so I bought two little cans of chunks to add to the usually mix of berries in their lunch boxes. (Oh, yeah, we have to think of something nutritious for their lunches every day as well.)

Silly Bubbe and Her Driver left for Indio about ten minutes after Lisa and Lenny returned.
