It is Cold!

Indio, California: I realize many of you are suffering through record-low temps, ice, snow, wind, travel delays and power outages... so you may not be sympathetic about me having to wait until nearly 11 o'clock this morning before the temperatures rose above 55 to exercise.

This, Dear Reader, is exactly why we are in Indio and not Portland most winters. I urge you to get in your RV, chain-up, and hit the highway to warmer climes as soon as possible.

Even in super-cold conditions (it will most-likely freeze here overnight), we are toasty warm inside our covered pavilion with the wall screens down and the fireplace on the "inferno" setting.

Did you know there is a football game on every dang Monday night? Seriously? Enough already.

I found gorgeous, thinner-than-pencil-thin asparagus at the Atwater Village Farmers Market yesterday, so decided to use them in my Fettuccini with Asparagus & Lemon. Okay, maybe finding locally-grown organic asparagus is another reason to resent the SoCal winter lifestyle... but I urge you to try this recipe as soon as asparagus shows up at your market.

After a quick prep (washing the asparagus, mincing garlic, zesting a lemon, grating some cheese), the meal comes together very quickly. Even with all the garlic, the lemon shines in this recipe - so brilliant!

Another cozy evening with My Driver at the Motorcoach Country Club.

SHOUT-OUT TO READER BARBARA: Your cousins were very brave to knock on our door this afternoon and must love you very much. I am sorry Vicki and Bruce had to see me without makeup. Hopefully, they will soon recover from the trauma... and, thank you for reading!

SLOGGER REPORT: I listened to a Los Angeles NPR affiliate while walking this morning. KPCC were discussing people who have decided to not move-on with technology - Luddites - who don't have cell phones and still use typewriters, film cameras and play cassette tapes. One guy called-in to report he still used floppy disks. This conversation was in total contrast to what I was doing today - I carried two pedometers and one GPS device to track my walk. The GPS clocked my six mile walk at six miles, my ancient NIKE+ pedometer/iPod/FM radio thingy (so old, it was actually discontinued by apple years ago) racked up 6.05 miles and my fitbit pedometer gave me 5.65 miles. 28 miles down for the month; 72 to go!

Until my next update, I remain, your chilly correspondent.
