All Hail, Jimmy

Las Vegas, Nevada: Hello, Dear Reader! We left our little paradise in Indio and traveled 300 miles to Las Vegas yesterday. The birthday celebration continues! We are at the Oasis Las Vegas RV Resort, which is conveniently located at the south end of The Strip. Though sites are a bit tight, and a bit expensive, we like to stay here. They have a great pool and hot tub and, well, like I said - it is super convenient.

Yes, the sky is really that blue. 85 degrees.

We didn't have much time to dawdle after we set-up camp (i.e. pushed a few buttons to level the bus, put the slide rooms out and the satellite dishes up - exhausting work). The Ducks were playing Arizona State (in Tempe) in football at 6p pacific. Mary & Steve's #3, Cory, lives in Las Vegas. Cory graduated from UNLV and works in event planning at one of the big fancy hotels on the strip. We met Cory and her boyfriend, Quincy, at a very fun sports bar, Miller's Alehouse in the new Town Center to watch the game on ESPN. Town Center is a shopping, entertaining and dining complex located between our RV park and the Las Vegas strip. It is a gigantic outdoor mall - and quite nice and upscale. I had a camera in my purse. I had a camera on my phone. I did not take even one photo of the kids last night - so I will post a pretty photo of Quincy & Cory taken at Lisa's wedding two weeks ago. We had a great time with the kids, the Ducks beat the Sun Devils 43-21 - and there are ten chickens running around Buffalo without wings.

As you probably know, we are here to see Jimmy Buffett in concert Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. This morning, in homage to our family motto of "GIVE JIMMY MORE MONEY", we went to the Margaritaville Cafe for our annual Cheeseburger in Paradise.

Paradise... or, just Las Vegas... Jimmy serves-up a decent burger. I also had his "Perfect Margarita". Good breakfast. We spent the the afternoon just walking around, window shopping and seeing what we could see.

Sin City has turned into Fin City this weekend. The entire town is filled with Parrotheads - 17,000 fans walking up and down the streets with tropical shirts, hula skirts and leis, sipping island concoctions. It's like Spring Break for 60-year-olds... or my favorite description ever of Jimmy's ageing fan base: Deadheads with Money.

Even Caesar hisownself, forever standing across the street from Jimmy's Margaritaville Cafe, is hoisting a margarita this weekend:

Until my next update, I remain, your Las Vegas correspondent.

RV PARK: Oasis Las Vegas RV Resort. Located at the south end of the famous Las Vegas strip, the park is just a short drive to the casinos, yet also near shopping, restaurants and grocery stores. Great pool and spa, security, wifi, cable, laundry and bath house. We paid about $50 (with Good Sam discount) per night for a premium pull-through site with 50 amp service and all hook-ups.
