Out & About

Bakersfield, California: No updates since our trip to San Diego for my birthday mid-October and it has been a busy few weeks at Taylor Manor since our return. Our dining room furniture has been returned, the dining chair cushions have been reupholstered and we are very pleased with the result. When the furniture repair guy returned our chairs, he took the coffee table and it was returned a week later, looking very nice indeed.

Our new patio cushion (originally purchased in 2012) reupholstery look fantastic. We went with blue instead of ho-hum beige. It was time. A new rug, new throw pillows and a smaller coffee table make for a very inviting poolside space.

Same old furniture - just new upholstery

By the time we returned from our October beach adventure, the La Quinta Farmers Market had opened for the season and I am there on Sundays scooping up anything that looks interesting.

Leo is asking nearly daily for updates on the golf course reseeding. He is so anxious to come out for Thanksgiving and golf with Bubba!

Looking good on November 1st

But, as probably previously mentioned, the palm tree in the center of our courtyard has grown up so much, pulling the earth and pavers up several inches, that when it rains the water runs to the perimeter of the courtyard, and not into the "stream bed" planned for the water to escape. (It doesn't rain often here, but when it rains - gee guess what - it POURS! The pavers needed to be lifted/re-sunk/risen or what-ever-the-heck the fancy laser-leveling equipment the crew used to figure it all out. Lots of noise and dust in our courtyard all week.

Re-leveling
The tiles were removed all the way to the driveway.

In our spare time... we hoped to be in Merced for Brother Billy & Ginger's joint birthday bash 7th of November... but DT was on jury duty standby. We had hoped to take the RV, but if he was released on Friday would drive up in the car Saturday. (We can reach Merced in one long day in the car, but need two days to reach Merced in our RV).

He called the Jury Duty Hotline at 7p Sunday: Call back tomorrow at 7p.

Monday: Call back tomorrow at 7p.

Tuesday: Call back tomorrow at 7p.

Wednesday: Call back tomorrow at 7p.

Thursday: Thank you for your service. You have fulfilled your duty for one year.

Talk about running around like chickens! We brought the RV to our house, loaded up, and hit the road at 1p Friday. Dave wanted to leave at noon, so he wouldn't have to drive in the dark, but that just did not happen.

This is so gooey and good!

We reached Bakersfield just after dark. Pulled into a campsite, had dinner (I just brought what we were going to have at home - my new favorite - and called it a night. Tomorrow, we will get to Merced and celebrate with the family.

Until my next update, I remain, your whooped correspondent.
