Near Koloa, Kauai: The weather continued to not cooperate with us. Windy and cloudy all day, but few sprinkles. We all went to breakfast together early - first time going to breakfast since we have been at this hotel. We either have coffee in our room, or forage a bit at the Continental breakfast in the Club Room. I enjoyed a tomato, onion and pepper omelette from the omelette bar in the netted-off-from-birds dining room looking out to sea… which was completely filled with little sparrows who figured out how to get into the dining room via the hotel lobby.
Even the kids didn’t spend much time in the pool. There was a lot of poolside reading and stitching. Dave grabbed one of the free Townie bikes from the hotel and rode it 3.5 miles out the end of the dirt road to find this beautiful beach:
My Poor Driver could not make the bicycle seat tall enough for his long legs, which resulted in serious cramping after the dismount. Ouch.
We had lunch at the poolside bar for the first time - DT had a quesadilla and I had a chicken salad.

Another quiet afternoon, organizing ourselves for an early departure in the morning, before meeting at 5p for cocktails in the hotel bar and playing a wild round of BS card game (Lucile’s favorite). Dave won the game tonight.
Lisa had saved the Best for Last - grabbing the free hotel shuttle to take us to the nearby Beach House restaurant for our dinner tonight. What a great restaurant and what a memorable evening. The fish is just-caught, the bread is fresh-baked, the deserts are made in house, and the Mai Tai’s are served with a passion fruit foam. Ridiculous!

We had mahi-mahi, steak, and several other dishes. I had a beet and fennel salad with Point Reyes blue cheese:

Dave and I fly back to Ontario in the morning. The kids fly back to Los Angeles. We have been together for so long, it will be a shock for Dave and I to not be together with our grandkids. I guess school gets in the way? We have enjoyed such a wonderful vacation with the 4L’s and Lisa organized everything so well, and planning four days at this resort with nothing to do but relax together was the best end to a great trip.
Until my next update, I remain, your Aloha correspondent.
