Pacific City, Oregon: Another sunny (chilly and windy) morning on the Oregon Coast. The high today was 64 degrees. But what a beautiful view we had at the beach for our morning walk and dory boat gawking.

The past few morning we have seen a handful of dory boat trailers parked on the beach, waiting patiently for their owners to return, but there must have been 30 trailers today. Dave talked to a few boat captains who told him the seas were too rough the past few days. There were also reports of Orcas swimming with the boats yesterday - sorry we missed that scene.

So many families on the beach this morning and so many surfers (in wetsuits).

We met local friends, Tracy and Jerry, for lunch and caught up since our last visit in February. (They winter in the Coachella Valley.) After lunch we had a bit of quiet time. I stitched, and DT is deep into The Wide Wide Sea, Imperial Ambition, First Contact and the Fateful Final Voyage of Captain James Cook, by Hampton Sides. Dave keeps sharing interesting tidbits, and it is all so intriguing, and also shocking how European's just sailed all over the world, killing populations with guns - and disease, and claiming the land for England, Spain, France, whatever. I think this may be a good listen while I am stitching this winter? Anyone have an opinion, please comment below.
And just to make our trip end with a bang, the weather turned so nasty in the afternoon. The sky grew dark and the wind began to howl. Don't we get enough wind in La Quinta? I just wanted to hunker-down, but we knew better and loaded the bicycles onto the rack, and started stowing stowables in preparation for our departure early tomorrow.
In honor of Juneteenth, I prepared baked sweet potatoes with a Caribbean-inspired topping of shallots, garlic, hot pepper, black beans and assorted spices. For the traditional red food we had a tomato salad.

The sun showed herself at dinner time, but the wind was still blowing. What an interesting four weather days.
NOTE: If you are at all interested, the San Francisco Giants (Dave's favorite team) are playing the St. Louis Cardinals tomorrow (20 June) on Birmingham, Alabama's historic Rickwood Field - the oldest major league park in America, and where Willie Mays started his career with the Birmingham Black Barons in the Negro League. The game will air on FOX at 4:15p pacific.
Until my next update, I remain, your I'm still cold correspondent.
