Back in Borrego

Borrego Springs, California: What is it about this place that pulls us back time and time again? Well, it is just over one hour away from our house, and the fabulous RV park has a very decent golf course and fabulous natural hot spring spas. We wanted to test getting the bikes on the hitch rack. Wanted to test what it will be like to be car-free. Three days in the desert heat may have us headed to the nearest mini-car dealership, but we will see. (We feel our Jeep is too heavy to tow behind this RV.) I also wanted to test my needlepoint stand/clamp situation. And maybe try laundry?

Home Sweet Home

We checked into our campsite, only to find very few sites taken. Guess it is too hot now for most people to camp in the desert? Our air conditioner sprung to life and we were good to go.

The RV Life

Just scroll down if you do not want to read my needlepoint clamp dilemma. I have a very nice sturdy clamp that will hold my canvas in a frame. However... the table in this rig has the oddest lip on the underside - narrow - and the top of the table is slanted (and may I add the table has dangerously sharp corners). My clamp would not work in this RV. No matter, I ordered another that I thought would work. It did not. Back it went. I tried another. Nope. Poor Dave, driving me to the RV storage place several times so I could test the clamps. Plan D: try a metal clamp that works with a metal arm I already have (for one of my two floor stands). It worked! Not only will the clamp work on the table, it will work on the ladder used to climb up to the bunk! Bonus!

Plus, since we will not be climbing it, the ladder is so useful as a place to hang handbags and hats. So that worked out and I am most pleased with my options for stitching. But here is something I found quite odd:

Who designed this? (Not me.)

When the driver and passenger seats are turned around, they are too short for most people (even this short person), so cushions/pads are provided by Winnebago to bring the seat to normal height. Did anyone think to place two dark grey cushions that match the driver/passenger seats? No, they did not. And it is just so pleasing to see all the maze of wire and cables under the seat! Why didn't they make the cushion skirts long enough to cover the wires? It looks like an accident waiting to happen. In reality, do we even need to turn the seats around? Do we need extra seating? This will be a campsite-to-campsite decision. It is nice to use that seat for stitching, as I do need to keep putting it all out and back if stitching on the dining table. I can just leave it up all the time if I use the passenger seat. These tough decisions are wearing me out.

That must mean it's cocktail time! Camping -
paper plate and plastic martini "glass"

We dined al fresco this evening, along with every flying critter in the valley attracted to our little lamp. Chicken breasts were marinated in lemon juice, lemon zest, za'atar and olive oil overnight, and I prepped a sauce with full-fat Greek yoghurt, lemon zest and Aleppo pepper. DT grilled the chicken and I prepped an Israeli salad (cucumber, tomato, green pepper, red onion, kalamata olives, feta) with farro. Easy, also served on paper plates. (Still cannot locate the dishwasher in this RV!)

Shabbat Shalom!

Our satellite TV dish locked-on immediately and we were able to catch the Pac-12 track and field championships from Boulder and see the Giants lose AGAIN to Cincinnati... while I stitched.

Tomorrow we pretend our bikes are cars.

Until my next update, I remain, your situated correspondent.

PS: I think I fixed the advertisement over-load Google over-rode in order to increase my income. Maybe a few ads in the side bar and only one ad at the bottom now? Let me know how the site looks now on your screen.

  1. Ummm, not sure if the above ad for walking off Menopausal Belly Fat is appropriate for your type of readers!!
BTW, the camping excursion sounds relaxing and fun!
If you’re camping at Newport or McMinnville during your trip to Oregon maybe we can get together?
    Happy Trails to you 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶

    1. I don’t know… I’m well past Menopause and still have lots of fat in lots of places. We will be in McMinnville and the coast on our summer trip. Let’s keep in touch.

  2. Site is well and happily fixed. Thank you as I always enjoy
    your posts !
Does your needlepointing bother your hands after a long stitching time?
I don’t stitch much any more but the last time noticed some aches.
Some of these things occur with age I think. Lol

    1. Sometimes, but it’s my eyesight that’s more the issue. Nearly impossible for me to stitch with black fiber.

  3. Oh, just to add…. I think your RV is really nice. Fun following your
    travels and woes , 🤭

  4. The Springs at Borrego is one of our favorite places, as is Borrego Springs itself. It calls us too!
